When you think of the 70's, what are the top three bands that come to mind?

“You” means you, not Billboard, Rolling Stone or anyone else-I want your personal opinion.
“Three” means exactly that. I don’t care if you can’t cut it down from 10 or 20, only the first three on your list count, in the order that you name them. Same thing if you try to divide them into categories, like Jazz, then Pop, then Rock etc.-the first three count, the rest don’t.
“Band” means exactly that. Don’t try to slip in your favorite musician as a “band” because she/he has backup. Established duets count if they are known and established as a group. Seals and Crofts counts, for example.

My three, in order?
The Eagles
Steve Miller Band
Fleetwood Mac

Yours?

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Rolling Stones

I suspect The Who should be in there as well

Led Zeppelin
Fleetwood Mac
Steve Miller Band

For some reason, Boston popped into my head first. I turned 13 in 1980, so I was pretty young in the 70s, but I remember music everywhere.

Boston
Steve Miller Band
The Eagles

The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Eagles

(I suspect that you can tell the Americans apart from the Brits by their choices! :grinning:)

I went with the first three that popped into my head (in order):

Creedence Clearwater Revival
Led Zeppelin
The Eagles

mmm

Beegees
Captain & Tennille
Village People

Zep
Queen
Kiss

I tried to conjure up the names that I most associate with the ‘70s, not thinking best. Bands who scream that decade to me.

Styx.
Yes.
ELP.

I expect to see Jethro Tull, Moody Blues, Blood Sweat and Tears, and Chicago in someone’s lists. My memories of that decade as distinctly different than before and after were the popularity of Progressive Rock, and of brass supported rock. May have been my crowd.

That’s how I wound up with the Bee Gees.

(After that, Three Dog Night, then Blondie.)

My first instinct was Journey, followed by Eagles, then the Stones.

These right here.

Kiss
Wings
Bee Gees

The Clash
The Jam
The Ramones

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Yes

Led Zeppelin
Deep Purple
Pink Floyd

Slade ← first one that came to mind, the most “70s” to me - but not my favourite !
Genesis
Weather Report

First three that came to mind:

Electric Light Orchestra
Doobie Bros
Aerosmith

Ramones
Led Zep
Genesis

Led Zeppelin
Mott the Hoople
Rolling Stones
