I remember Loretta and Conway were performing on nearly all the country music tv shows. I think they toured together. There were unfounded rumors about them dating.
Dolly and Kenny Rogers experienced similiar success a decade later. They had a hit single and multiple Tours. They didn’t crank out a stream of records.
The first three that popped into my mind when I saw the thread title were Led Zeppelin Queen The Who
A few seconds more thought convinced me that ABBA and The Bee Gees should really be on the list, except that I don’t really think of them as bands (players of instruments).
A little bit more thought had me wondering whether to swap out some of the previous with The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and a few other names I thought of.
And now, reading through the thread, I don’t have cause to regret my own “choices,” but I am frequently slapping my forehead and saying “Why didn’t I think of them?”
It goes without saying that these aren’t my favorite bands from the 70s, but I was born in '73 and didn’t really acquire any musical taste until '88 or so. If I treat the decade like a word association quiz, the things that leap to mind are the butt-ugly clothes and TV variety shows…top of my head, no thinking…
Bee Gees
The Osmonds
The Eagles
Music snob that I am, I wish I could say Roxy Music, The Clash and Mott the Hoople, but here we are.
