When you think of the 70's, what are the top three bands that come to mind?

I remember Loretta and Conway were performing on nearly all the country music tv shows. I think they toured together. There were unfounded rumors about them dating.

Dolly and Kenny Rogers experienced similiar success a decade later. They had a hit single and multiple Tours. They didn’t crank out a stream of records.

The first three that popped into my mind when I saw the thread title were
Led Zeppelin
Queen
The Who

A few seconds more thought convinced me that ABBA and The Bee Gees should really be on the list, except that I don’t really think of them as bands (players of instruments).

A little bit more thought had me wondering whether to swap out some of the previous with The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, and a few other names I thought of.

And now, reading through the thread, I don’t have cause to regret my own “choices,” but I am frequently slapping my forehead and saying “Why didn’t I think of them?”

That was actually one of the reasons I started this thread.

Eagles, Pink Floyd, Queen, in no particular order.

Others have covered the top three, and honestly it’s a bit objective; you can look up stats on record sales, etc.

But my favorite three from the 1970s?

Black Sabbath
Joni Mitchell
The Ramones

Oh. I have to change one of mine.

The Moody Blues

Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young

Boston
Fleetwood Mac
Bob Seger & Silver Bullet Band

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
Rush

Of the 70s groups on my favorites playlist, they have the most songs.

I was the youngest, and inherited all of the 8tracks as my siblings left home.

Also, my first concert was Charley Rich.

It goes without saying that these aren’t my favorite bands from the 70s, but I was born in '73 and didn’t really acquire any musical taste until '88 or so. If I treat the decade like a word association quiz, the things that leap to mind are the butt-ugly clothes and TV variety shows…top of my head, no thinking…

Bee Gees
The Osmonds
The Eagles

Music snob that I am, I wish I could say Roxy Music, The Clash and Mott the Hoople, but here we are.

Ugh, Fleetwood Mac, all day long. I remember every adult I knew getting Meatloaf’s Bat out of Hell album and The Who’s Who’s Next.

My faves at the time: Dr. Teeth(muppets)
Bee Gees
Sonny & Cher
Yes, I was under 10 years old, so no claims made for taste. : )

Hey, Sonny and Cher were big stuff in my junior high school.

S & C is not a band, as per the OP, so you get another pick, if you so choose.

I thought they were allowed. In fact, the OP specifically allows (a different) S & C.

The Clash
The Sex Pistols
The Ramones

Well, that’s what I get for sneaking in a quick 8-hour nap. I shall attempt to be more diligent in the future.

Led Zeppelin
Pink Floyd
The Eagles

Motörhead
Dead Kennedys
The Clash

Only three! That’s no way to zoom in on the 70’s.
I won’t, but I am surprised nobody has mentioned Supertramp.

Wait. You weren’t old enough to drive in the 70’s, were you?

Led Zeppelin
Fleetwood Mac
AC/DC

Winner.
