Cody was named “Cody” before he came to live with me.
I’ve had more than one instance of meeting someone with a son/cousin/nephew/grandchild named “Cody”, and when the conversation turns to me with “So, do you have children?”, I have a mild panic attack. 'Cause I know how it’s going to go:
“No, I have no children”.
“Do you have any pets?”
“Yes - I have a German shepherd”.
“What is its name?”
:dubious:
Do people who encounter animals with their same names feel awkward or insulted?
I’ve never run across a dog names Anna before, but would get a chuckle out of it if I did.
I work in a call center and a couple of weeks ago, got a call from a woman named Karma. I have a dog named… Kharma, pronounced the same. I couldn not help it, I laughed a little and then told her ‘I hope you’re not offended, but you’re the first HUMAN Karma I’ve ever talked to… My dog’s name is Kharma!’ She was not offended at all we shared a good laugh over it.
I suppose if it was someone that hated dogs, they might not like it, but then, anyone that hates dogs… I really don’t care if I offend them!
Oh, and by the way, Untouched… I haven’t met a dog named Pamela, but once while I was out riding my horse, I was charged by a small dog with her owner running after her yelling “Paula Marie! Paula Marie!” Just cracked me the hell up. So, if there is a dog named Paula Marie, I would not be surprised at all to find a Pamela,.
Well, let’s see…currently I have Pat, Maggie, Sophie, Andy, Wylie, Jake, Sabrina and Nick (as well as Spike, Papi, Daisy, Peanut, Irish and Nakota). I’m not embarrassed by meeting anyone with those names.
The only person in this scenario who should feel embarrassed is the child whose name has doomed him to a life of mullets and truck stops. The fact that he’s got a dog namesake is the least of his problems.
I have a dog and a cat with human names. It would never occur to me that someone would be offended by sharing their name with my dog.
I’ve never met an animal with my name but I wouldn’t care about it if I did.
Years ago, my then step-kids, who were fairly young, named our family bassett hound after my dad. They said that he (the dog) reminded them of Grandpa in personality. He (Dad) took it in good humor (easy going, like the bassett ).
My own name happens to be a very popular dog name. It has been mentioned in this very thread. I think of it as being the kind of sweet, friendly name that someone would choose for their best friend, so that doesn’t bother me at all.
Sam is quite a common name for dogs, but it’s never occurred to me to be bothered by it.
My dog has a human name that is also the number 1 name for female dogs, and my cat has a less common human name. They both kinda sound like animal names though, IYSWIM; friends of mine have cats named Brian and Louise, which is different.
