Ok, clearly you win.
Agreed. I was actually impressed that everyone was simply relating their experience without negatively commenting on other posters choices.
My kids were in bed by 8 until middle school and then by 9. In high school I generally encouraged lights out around 10, but it was up to them as long as they didn’t have trouble getting up for school.
This isn’t even remotely close to what this thread is about. The vast majority of posters have provided age, bedtime, some info about bedtime routines and some wake-up times–that’s it. You were the one who felt compelled to bring GPAs and other irrelevant and extrinsic information into the discussion.
I’ve only been a mother for 14 weeks but it’s already become blindingly obvious (and was so even before I had the baby) that there are a minimum of four completely contradictory answers to any child related question, none of which are right and none of which are wrong. The idea that there is a one-size-fits-all answer to such questions is ludicrous. But you are the only one suggesting that.
Interesting response, since there was nothing in his/her tone to suggest he was “winning”. His/her tone was neutral. You are reading a lot into these replies.
The irony of this minor spat is that, whenever you become a parent you pretty soon understand that all the “sure fire” tips contained in “how-to” baby books are a load of bollocks. When you realise that every little one is an individual and that what works for A, doesn’t necessarily work for B you don’t want to start beating yourself up because you are straying from the “one true path”.
There are general hints and tips which are worth trying but hey…whatever works right? If they end up getting enough sleep and you aren’t pushed to the point of a spree-killing then it is all good.
Bed time is around 8 p.m. which coincides with the time I release them from the soundproof closet.
and release the hounds?
We’re pretty easy going on the whole bedtime thing with our 44 year old, especially since he’s had his own place for 26 years now. It seems to work out fairly well, he’s never late for work or anything. Far as we know anyhow.
