The OP’s poster also says “Blast from the past DJ appearances,” so it really does sound like it’s supposed to be a bit of a throwback, commemorating the defunct WHFS.
It definitely is.
Yeah, Tarot Readings just hasn’t been very good, since that one hit they had back in the Aughts. Guitar Hero Tournament, though, can still put out a catchy tune.
Unless they had a time machine, they definitely weren’t playing Death Cab For Cutie or the Postal Service in 1995.
I’ve seen them pop up on social media and I see them as another version of that retro 70s rock like Greta Van Fleet. I like that sound, but it’s been done…a lot. Not that I’m saying there isn’t an avenue for that. I say this as someone in a cover band (trying to come up with originals) that hopes we can play somewhere, somehow if only we can find a drummer. We are playing music from the early 2000s though…not the 60s/70s.
I think there are some better retro bands like Nathaniel Rateliff & the Night Sweats or Alabama Shakes. They aren’t trying to be Zep, but they definitely have a retro sound that still sounds very fresh to me.
The world needs more drummers!
