I don’t know about native, but there are feral chickens in almost every rural area that I know where there are farms.
They are also prevalent in some urban areas, Miami for one comes to mind. It’s not uncomeon to see them in yards or even in the streets, and I know a few years ago when I spent a few weeks with my cousin down there, I’d be awaken at dawn each morning by them.
A handsome fellow I must say. If fowls were not so commonplace as domestic animals, they would be better appreciated for their beauty. Or at least the roosters would. As with most of the Phasanidae, it’s the male that’s showy while the female is rather dull in appearance.
Ah, but chickens aren’t bred for their magical abilities.
