Where indeed? Do they get scrubbed after a certain amount of time? The one’s I had from the first year or two of owning my PC vanished, then the points from this last year promptly did the same thing sometime before I switched it on today to try and run a system restore.
But then this may all be uneccesary if someone can tell me why DVDs have started playing at a horrendously slow pace on my PC? Through media player and WINDVD, films play really really slowly and jerkily. I can’t think of what it is I’ve installed that is doing this?
Can’t help with the DVD stuff, and this info on system restore is also unlikely to be of constructive help to you at this point.
Restore points are saved in the hidden and protected \system volume information folder at the root of your hard drive. There is only a certain amount of space set aside for restore points, so when automatic restore points are set they will often force older ones to be automatically removed. Control panel settings under system will enable you to increase the amount of reserved space.
Use your task manager to close any programs that, although you have explicitly exited, have left behind a running process. Typically things like acrobat’s or iTunes speed launchers. Of course this imply’s closing all other running programs too. You could also press window + pause/break and change your system preferences to favor performance. On computers with less ram you will note a marked difference. Your dvd player could need the laser cleaned, or your dvd’s could be dirty. If you think it is something you installed and want to go back to a restore point it is pretty straight forward and actually works very well. I’m on a mac right now, but from memory it’s something like start > programs > accessories > system tools > system restore. This article looks like it will walk you through it. Have no fear with system restore, you can re-restore, and even re-re-restore. I’ve never experienced a problem with it. Of course YMMV~!
Well at least it’ll help me to prepare for the future I was getting a bit save happy trying to find out what it was that I’d installed that was messing with DVD playing. So thanks anyway!
