Where are these hotels with great towels?

Periodically a thread will pop up in which a Doper wants to know how to buy towels that are as fluffy and nice as hotel towels… or will talk about how she likes to periodically spend a weekend in a hotel, just for the room service and HBO and nice towels. Towel manufacturers really like to call their towels “hotel towels”, too.

In my experience though, hotel towels are always small, thin, and scratchy. I got all excited during our vacation on Saint Thomas two weeks ago, when our original B&B was still closed due to post-Hurricane-Earl power outages, and we spent a couple of nights at the Ritz-Carlton. It was the first time I was staying at a truly nice, nice hotel. Surely the towels would be awesome! Nope, they weren’t.

What hotels do I need to stay at?

Four Seasons has great towels.

The Westin in Vegas has fantastic towels, but that was 4 years ago. Here’s the link.

Really, a great towel has as much to do with quality as it does with age. If a towel is several years old and in heavy use (bleach if white, industrial washers, hot water for germs, etc) it’s not gonna feel great no matter what it’s made of.

Me, I like huge towels (body wraps or bath sheet or beach sized, anything bigger than a regular body towel) so I’m most satisfied with with my giant 20% modal 80% cotton bath sheet. Any towel with some modal in it will feel super soft and slightly silky.

Wynn Encore in Vegas has awesome towels. So does Caesar’s, for that matter.

Broadmoor in Colorado Springs. 5 stars all the way.
But I have been to other top notch hotels/resorts that have kick butt towels. Not many though!
I think you have to stick to places that call them selves “Resorts” and even then no guarantees!
Four Seasons also meet that standard out of the ones I have been to.

The Ritz Carlton’s I’ve been to (DC and Boston) are good, not great. I’d call them “upper middle class” towels. They’re fairly soft but not very absorbent. Their giant emblems are annoying and super scratchy too.

Oh, if the OP wants to buy towels, if you don’t like modal or can’t find it, Polo makes some great bath towels and bath sheets. Go to a factory outlet for the best prices.

I came in to mention the Broadmoor Hotel. I stayed there on vacation last month. They have the towels people want as everything else you could possibly want and I think you can buy them. Very impressive hotel. It made some of the so-called fancy ones they show in movies look like a Motel 6. I loved their robes too and thought about charging one to my room because I wasn’t the one paying for it.

I’m very happy with my own towels. I’ve yet to come across a hotel that could match, much less exceed, them.
