Hi, Teeming Millions. I’d like to buy a copy of Stanislaw Lem’s “Solaris” - in the original Polish, not an English translation. However, I don’t actually speak Polish (this is a gift), so I’d have to get it from an English-language website. Any suggestions?
I tried the Polish EBay site, thinking that the layout might be similar enough that you could find yourself around without needing to know exactly what each icon says.
Here are the search results I came up with. Perhaps it might be a last resort if there aren’t any suitable specialist book stores near you or on line.

Since you’re in DC you could always visit the Polish library at 1503 21st Street
It looks as though Ksiegarnia Nowego Dziennika (which google gives as being a specialist Polish language bookseller in New York) has a copy for $13.50.
Their site also seems to sell Polish literature and books about Poland in English so I’m guessing they’ve got people who’ll offer you English language help.
Interesting thing about Solaris – apparently there is no complete translation of the book into English. And the currently in print version is actually translated into English by way of French. Maybe your friend can translate it for you.
Hahaha - somehow, I doubt she’d appreciate that. Though I have read the English-by-way-of-French edition, and it was pretty darned good.
