I recently listened to a book on tape called Finders Keepers: The Story of a Man Who Found $1 Million. It’s based on the true story of a drug addict named Joey Coyle from South Philadelphia who found almost 1.5 million dollars that fell out of a Purolator armored truck in 1981. The story was made into a forgettable movie starring John Cusack.
Anyway, I’ve become intrigued by the real life Joey Coyle (which is why I’m not posting in Cafe Society) who ended up strangling himself just shortly before the movie came out. I’ve read what I can about him, and I’m very curious as to what he looked like after his five day spree when he was caught, and before his death.
I’ve done some searches on the web and on the Philadelphia Inquirer newspaper web site, and although I can purchase the text of old stories, the Inquirer doesn’t include pictures with the old stories.
I’m sure the story was covered in 1981 by the major newspapers. I live in a far northern suburb of Chicago - is my only option to get a glimpse of him to go to the library and search through microfilm?
