I’m working on a project that requires I calculate how much a fixed investment made some years ago is worth today based on the interest rate for each year it was invested. For example - if I invested £100 in 1955 how much would it be worth now? Since I need to calculate figures from a number of years and varying invested amounts, I’ve been trying to find a list of average interest rates for the years from 1940 to the present. Ideally I’m looking for both UK and US rates over these time periods.
I know how to do the calculation if I have the rate for each of the years in the investment period, but without the rates I’m stuck!
There seems to be loads of websites telling me how good their current interest rates are, but I can’t find anything about historical rates. I would have expected someone like the Bank of England or a government dept. to have them, but I can’t find anything.
Can anyone help ?
