too bad about debate. . . the speech and debate team is hosting a tournament this weekend and we always seem to need more judges. . . 
The SUNY-B/BU name debate is an interesting one. From what I can tell (and the student newspapers here are never objective enough to get a straight story but this is what I’ve been able to determine) the university’s tendency towards privatization is most evident in their insistence on using the BU name (you can’t even find a shirt or anything with the SUNY name on it, and I’ve tried!)
many students and alumni oppose the privatization, and so insist on using the SUNY name in retaliation.
(if you know anything about this name thing then feel free to correct me if I got the details wrong)
BU sounds more professional, but I like saying SUNY because I think it sounds friendlier. There’s a whole bunch of SUNYs, so I get a sense of community out of the name. Sounds silly but that’s the way my mind works
