Where can I get consumer reviews of mundane stuff.

If I want to buy a car, DVD player, or digital camera I can find more product reviews than I could ever read here on the good old web.

But, really, over the course of a year, I spend much more at the grocery store than I do at Circuit City. Has anyone ever seen a site devoted to more mundane items, such as household goods?

For example, most frozen food is nasty, but Pillsbury frozen (not canned) biscuits are tastier than anything I could ever make from scratch. However, I might never have tried them had I not had them while a guest at someone’s home.

Another example. I usually find that trash bags are all pretty much the same, but I tried a new brand on sale, and they turned out to be the first I’ve ever used that I would actually insist on buying in the future. (Hefty Gripper Tall Kitchen Bags) It would be neat to find a place where I could make my satifaction known to my fellow consumers.

Of course, I don’t need to mention examples of goods that looked good on TV and were garbage when I got them home. Heck, if I could have the money back that I have wasted on all of that junk, maybe I could afford the car, DVD player, and digital camera.

Any sites come to mind, fellow dopers???

Well, in the UK, www.dooyoo.co.uk springs to mind, but I don’t think it has a US version.

www.epinions.com might fit the bill.

Hmm, epinions doesn’t seem to cover groceries. Look at dooyoo anyway - maybe some of the food you buy will be the same as UK stuff.

Consumer Reports does review fairly mundane things, they’ll do canned soups and detergents. Try your local library. Start with the most recent “Buyer’s guide” (a small paperback) and use it’s index to find the issue that covers what’s of interest. (Or just read and browse.) If you find yourself regularly saving money, then subscribe.

Consumer Reports magazine has a Web site at www.consumerreports.org/
I’ve seen them do frozen foods, dish detergent, etc.
