Upon the changeover of the Euro as the only official currency of the EU, all the former currencies of the individual constituent nations were phased out and taken out of circulation.
Does anybody know if there were “collector’s sets” saved aside – for example, a framed set of one of each commonly circulated note and coin for the former French Franc? My wife and I took our honeymoon in Paris in the late 90s and I was thinking it’d be a nice anniversary gift. In particular I fondly remember the 50FF note which had an engraving of St-Exupery’s “Little Prince”.
I suppose “genuine” notes taken out of circulation are rare, but I would settle for replicas.
You live in Flushing? Call a few local coin stores. They tend to buy things like that. Not every coin dealer is attuned to know what you’re looking for, but you may find one who is.
Call around.
The 50Fr. note linked to by Rico was used after WWI. Not the one you want.
The 50 Fr note you want is almost certainly still redeemable, though not currently used because of the Euro. I may have one knocking around.
Face value on the thing is probably about $7-9. or so US.
Small pocket change(coins) from the 1990’s are pretty common.
You can email me if you have questions.
I don’t want anyone to think that I’m soliciting business on here, just trying to help someone with a request which I may be better able to satisfy than the average poster/coin dealer. If it’s a problem, then I won’t do it. Not looking to profit on this.
