Where can I get my Congressional Medal of Honor replaced?

Say I lose my CHM (or any military medal for that matter) during a move or my kid sells it to buy drugs or something…can I write the DoD to get it replaced or what?

Let me add to this query, since I was thinking of posting a question myself on this subject.

My father, who passed away in 1994, served in the Navy at Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He received serveral campaign ribbons for his service, which I recall seeing when I was a kid. However, since his death we have been unable to find them. (It’s possible my father may have thrown them away.) Would I be able to request replacements? I have a copy of his discharge papers and service records that indicate the ribbons he was entitled to.

I don’t know where you can get a Congressional Medal of Honor but most medals are for sale at military clothing stores and on line. For example, you can get a large purple heart medal for $27.50 from the people here:

Make sure you tell people in bars that you’re looking for your lost Medal of Honor. Apparantly, it’s an effective pickup line.

Google. One shot. One hit.

Here is some good info. I recently ordered a free replacement good conduct medal (Marine Corps). I used form 180.

After my father passed away, I was going through all of his military records from WWII. I had found some of his medals and citations, but he was awarded some medals that I was unable to find.

I was able to order the medals, and those, along with dogtags and unit patches and so forth, were put into a glass faced oak box that I hung on the wall. A fitting tribute to a man who hated war, but did his part. Just one of the small ways to honor him. I had a great Dad.
