Preston Manning was formerly the leader of the opposition in Canada, heading a right-wing party that famously ran no candidates in Quebec. Unsurprisingly, Manning is a monolingual anglophone, but I seem to recall him trying (and mostly failing) to speak French in some televised appearances. Some Googling turns up recent interviews with him where he talks about these attempts—see for example articles in iPolitics and C2C Journal, where he refers to speaking French in a federal election debate in Quebec and in the House of Commons. However, I haven’t had any luck turning up audio or video recordings of the speeches themselves. Can anyone help?
