Where do the Simpson's Live?

To her, it was “oh, hiya Maude!” It only sounded like Ohio to us because we expected to hear the name of a state afterward (and of course the gag was written to make us think that for a second).

Technically everywhere in America is within driving distance of Vegas. If you drive long enough…

Remind me, I forget, when is the Honolulu - San Franciscon tunnel opening?

Was that before or after they moved the town after filling it up with garbage?

Cool, but there is no need for even that one line. I was reacting to the general sentiment, as expressed first by Munch, then by Ponder Stibbons, and a third time in your post. I didn’t mean to imply that you specifically had repeatedly been a buzz kill. I don’t mean to snap, but I get tired of people coming into Star Wars threads to tell us Tatooine isn’t real or LOTR threads to tell us it’s just a story. Your comment seemed to have a finality to it that disagrees with me. This isn’t GQ where questions are asked, answered, and put to bed as quickly as possible to conserve bandwidth. This is Cafe Society; we are here to waste bandwidth with pointless essays, verbal sparring and witty exchanges concerning the shared artwork of the cultures of the world . . .

D’oh!

I’ve heard one of the producers of the show say that he’s asked this question a lot. He says that it surprises him; is Springfield really a town that you want to be able to say is in your state (or is your city)? Perhaps people should be trying to prove where Sprinfield isn’t located.

The cranky old geezer in the town meetings definitely has a Maine accent.

This game reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes game. I wonder if it’s an intentional nod. Quoting Dex, I find striking similarities:

Players of this classic game must also deal with inconsistencies/contradictions and are also forced to make disclaimers lest people think them insane or stupid:

Heh. Can you count the Simpsons as literature? If I mentioned the Simpsons and ‘felicities’ in the same sentence most of my friends would think I was pitching a crossover show (Felicity, anyone? Anyone?) Anyway, I think that maybe Matt Groening is referencing Sherlock Holmes with this game, and that means that to solve the riddle would be to unearth the ancient knowledge of the elders (most likely discoverd by Matt in Australia). Upon us depends more than can be put into words - all civilisation, all natural law, perhaps even the fate of the solar system and the universe. . .

Anyway, I’m leaning toward the theory that Groenig was inspired by the Australian beer writing and that led him to create the Simpsons, but he placed them in Springfield, IL to throw off the hounds. Now, if only I had the last piece of the puzzle . . .

What if we use the process of elimination? Wasn’t there an episode where they got back home from vacation (Florida?) and Marge is crossing the state off of a large map of the US and says something like “Well, there’s another state we can never go to again.” I don’t recall which states were not crossed off, but obviously they must live in one of them

IIRC, the two states that weren’t crossed off were Arizona and North Dakota.

They couldn’t go to Arizona because it “smelled funny,” which left ND as their only choice.

“Hooray! Mount Rushmore!”
“No, that’s in South Dakota.”
“Ohhhhh…”

November 2006.

And y’know, if you asked me real nice like where Springfield is, I might tell ya.

Nahh, I wouldn’t exploit you like that.

Although if you know this week’s lottery numbers…
