I keep most of mine on an external hard drive. It’s not really “hidden”, but it is a couple of folders deep to discourage accidental stumbling across. The hard drive itself is inside of a locking desk drawer that has a notch cut in it just the right size to run a USB cable. The main reason I keep it in there is because, hey, that’s a pretty cool feature, why not use it? Does bupkis for keeping folks out of the hard drive since they’d just have to plug the other end into their laptop, but I really don’t see any of the people I live and work with going through the trouble.
As for why I have it on a hard drive? Hey, sometimes I find a video I particularly like, and I’m not sure I will be able to find it again. And sometimes, the internet is just flaky as all hell and streaming movies just isn’t doable. Also, my laptop has a SSD which is super fast but also relatively tiny.
Sure, you can always find new stuff, but when you find that bit that just hits your kink just right, it’s pretty nice to keep a copy. I bury them in an unassuming folder on my hard drive, and that’s only because other people sometimes use my computer.
I don’t have what most people would call porn but I do have two major fetishes and a few minor ones that I collect images of. I have my collection on a hard drive and a back-up on a thumb drive. I use an encryption program that might not stop a determined pro but would certainly stop my survivors from stumbling onto it should I be run over by a bus.
Back when I cared and bothered to save stuff, it was in a boring sounding folder. No one is really going to look in C:/Programs/Voodoo3/Setup/Warranty for porn.
I have it in a folder called ‘smut’ on my external disc. I openly tell my friends I’ll share if they want, but they never seem very exited about it. As for keeping it around, I don’t always have access to internet, and if I do, it’s usually on internet cafe’s. Also, I’m one of those weirdos that has to have HD, to see every pimple and crater.

None of it is hidden whatsoever (it’s in folders like downloads or videos) and it’s not very much. For the most part I look at online porn. But I work offshore, where we don’t have internet in our rooms, so I make sure I am well prepared (which explains all of the mobile devices I have porn on)
I don’t hide mine - it’s right there on my hard drive, a couple of innocuous folders deep. I’m not ashamed of it and it’s not illegal, and nobody pokes around on my computer anyway. It’s backed up to an external drive too. The internet is too scattershot to bother with. I save everything that appeals to me, then I’ve always got it. Most of it is from newgroups – remember those? Still a great place for the porn collector.
Slightly different question, where do you hide your porn bookmarks? Mine are under a rather innocuously named folder under my security software bookmarks folder. I don’t keep any bookmarks for it on my iPad, since that occasionally falls into the hands of children.
28 gigabytes?! I don’t even have that much data on my computer - including the OS and all program files (my personal data is only around 800 MB, accumulated at about 100 MB per year; of course, this is mostly stuff I have made myself and includes no videos or music; I also still use a 512 MB flash drive as backup (compressed) with about 100 MB of free space left). I’m also the kind of person who think that multi-terabyte hard drives are silly (I have a 200 GB drive even though my current computer is only 2 years old; similarly, I have “only” 2 GB of RAM but rarely go over 50% used; why have 16 GB if you never use it, plus 32 bit Windows can’t use it anyway, although I could add that much).
Yes, I do have some, but only about 10 MB worth of pictures, located in an otherwise unassuming folder located in my personal files (nobody would ever find it unless they bothered to look though every folder or knew about the files I generally make/folder names for them). Also, as others said, you can just go onto the Internet and find stuff; the pictures I mentioned are ones that I particularly like.
Back in my high school/pre-internet days I’d keep my collection of Playboy/Penthouse/Hustler mags on the bookself with a few issues of Popular Science/Popular Electronics on top of them.
Now it’s all in the folder C:/Windows/System32/Pr0n.
Generally, for protecting data, I wish I had discovered encryption programs that can create virtual drives earlier.
For example using FreeOFTE you can create a file that is like an iso, but requires a key to open. So you can have a complete folder hierarchy that just appears on the physical disk as, say, backup.vol
(obviously a zip/rar is the same but in that case you need to unzip everything in advance which takes a while. Mounting a virtual drive takes a second or two).
Also you can create a second, fake, passphrase that will result in a fake virtual drive if you’re really paranoid (and due to the technicalities of how virtual drives work, they cannot look at the file sizes and conclude anything).
disclaimer: I don’t work for FreeOFTE (which is free anyway). And my porn tastes are pretty vanilla.
