In the middle of a big, bustling city that is 5 minutes’ walk away from a giant forest and flat grassy plain.
There’s a frood who really knows where his towel is.
so how big is the ship you’re planning on traveling with? 'cos the more you take with you, the more fuel you need to get there. and the more fuel you’re carrying, you need even more fuel to carry that fuel.
how are you going to build a nuclear reactor on Mars? in order to generate enough power it has to be huge, heavy, and (at least with the proven designs we have now) require a shitload of water.
I love Chicago, but the Pacific Northwest also calls out to me. Ideally, I think I’d like a life split up between two places, because I enjoy change of scenery. I also loved living in Hungary, so half or quarter of my year there, the rest here would be fine, too.
The Monterey Bay Area - Monterey, Pacific Grove, but not Carmel.
I’ll be there soon, but not soon enough!
Nice! We’ll almost be neighbors. We ditched Seatlle last year and moved to Santa Barbara, so I guess that’s the answer to this question. Sunny year round, never cold, never hot; ten minutes from the beach, downtown, or the mountains. Big enough that there are most of the amenities, small enough that I’m no longer sitting in traffic some significant portion of my life. And anything that’s missing can be found in Ventura or Thousand Oaks less than an hour away, or LA just an hour and a half away.
There probably are more good bookstores remaining on Mars.
Berkeley, in a house a few blocks up the hill from the flatland, so I have a view of the Bay and Golden Gate but can still ride my bike into town (and back up to the house…) without being an Olympic athlete.
I’d go back to Santa Barbara and live near the mission.
Where I went to school and my sister lives. Wonderful area.
I’m very attached to my hometown of Montreal, but at this time of year, I entertain thoughts of moving to a warmer part of Canada like Vancouver.
I’d love to live where I do now going forward, if only I could get some of the crappy A-hole neighbors near me to retire to Forrest Lawn.
(Yeah, I know, its just what Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and Paul Walker need: more shitty neighbors.)
…In fact it’s cold as hell…
Hmm. I came in here to say “Carmel”, but I think PG is wonderful, too. I spend a lot of time in both places (they’re an easy drive from where I live). Lots of similarities between the two, but too much of PG is devoid of trees for my taste. Yeah, Carmel can be fairly pretentious at times, but as long a you stay away form Ocean Ave, you miss 90% of the bullshit.
Actually, I’d love to live in Europe for awhile. France, Spain or Southern Germany (Bavaria) would do nicely. But I think I’d eventually find myself back in NorCal at some point. Love the Monterey Bay Area!
Cool! Now if you could only arrange for someone to open a good Korean restaurant here, I’d be set for life.
Assuming I could magically afford it, Germany.
No matter where I might go, I’d still be me. So I’m staying put even tho it wasn’t my choice to live here.
Not that I’d mind being depressed in Vienna.
Hawaii’s Big Island. With all of its micro-climates, you can enjoy almost any type of environment you want.
PM me and we can have coffee.
Venice for part of the year. Then maybe Orlando, Cape Cod, Manhattan, and Costa Rica for another part.
It’s great up here (just below the Canadian border, on the water). But I do miss the desert sometimes, and New Orleans is my favourite city (when it’s not too freakin’ hot!).
