Where does your last name rank?

New Scientist magazine once pointed out someone by the name of Yuki Ichinose. No word on if he suffers from allergies.

Surname: not there. But the variations which people often misspell my name as (as in “Are you sure there’s no ‘s’ at the end?”) are all there.

First name: one thousands. And it’s common misspelling is much higher.

Husband’s name: not there at all.

First, middle and last names all in top 75. I’m almost as common as Steve Wright.

I’ve never been able to successfully google my name and come up with anything relevant.

First Name: 143
Last Name: 2332

(my name’s fairly common, to the point where I knew a GUY with the same first and last names as me in high school)

First name is top 150 (guess it’s a lot more common in the US than I thought). My name also shows up in the 340’s on the female names.

My last name lurks around the mid 62,000’s - less than 0.000%

My last name is #9506. Of course, it ranks a lot higher (#21) here in Finland.

First in the top five, last in the high 3000s.

Last Name - Top 40 (a common misspelling just inside 200)

First Name - Top 5
Nickname - between 150 - 200
Middle (as a last) - between 600 - 650

PlanWife - 350 - 400
her maiden - just inside 900 (although it is an Ellis Island version of a Syrian name, which I don’t know)

PlanDaughter - non listed as we spell it, but a varient is in the top 500, and another spelling is between 1200-1250

the middle name PlanWife and PlanDaughter share (and a few generations back) - Top 10

And I thought my parents had unusual names, but
Dad - top 300
Mom - top 200

So we jes common folks (which I suspected)

Anybody know what the other 2 columns of numbers are?

Here is the detailed methodology of the list.

Zev Steinhardt

Oh, how I hate when people spell it “Snyder.” That’s a perfectly fine name. It’s just not mine.

And in my case, it comes from Yiddish, not German. A lot of people make that (entirely understandable) mistake as well. sigh

My last name is close to 83000, though there are quite a few variations.

Zyada is under 7000.

3 out of every 100,000 people have my last name. Which seems about right.

Strangely, only 4 out of every 100,000 people have the last name that you get if you misspell my last name. Which is not so much more that it makes sense that people always jump to the wrong spelling. (Especially since my name is the phonetic spelling.)

My first name is in the top 50. One of those names that’s familiar but not overly common.

I have met another me. It was very weird.

Wow 20. I’d never have thought there were so many.

My last name is in the high 75,100s. It’s a corruption of a German name, and everyone still wants to spell it the German way (with a z at the end, not an s). The original' spelling is in the high 5,500s, so I suppose it's more common and the urge to correct’ us must be strong.

But I’ll be damned if I change the spelling.

My first name is barely out of the top ten, and easily fits in the first screenful. But then, my parents weren’t the most imaginative namers in the world.

My surname is not listed either, however my given name is in the 800’s.

My first, middle and last names add up to less than 2500. I guess I’m fairly ordinary after all.

Name doesn’t exist on the list.

Last name is in the top 10, first name in the top 150. I’ve known a few people with my name; in fact there is another person with the same name in my company that works in a very similar position as me but in a completely different city. We get each other’s emails all the time. There’s one guy in my town that shares my name; apparently he’s a hockey player and quite the ladies man – I would get calls at all hours of the night from strange women wanting to know when they could see me again. Got me a lot of strange looks from my SO.

My last name is in the 14,500 area. My maiden name isn’t there at all.

My first name is around 4250, so now I know my parents didn’t invent it.
