where is Bobby Fischer?

Does anyone know what ever became of Bobby Fischer? All I know is he seems to pop up from time to time.

I think it was once posted here that he is in Sri Lanka or the Phillipines, IIRC,
and happily cursing the US after 9/11, too… Perhaps another SDoper can confirm this, but I recall he only has bad things to say about the USA. - Jinx

The brutal, unprovoked U.S. led invasion and subsequent occupation of Iraq is nothing but naked aggression and all civilized countries all over the world should immediately and completely and permanently break all diplomatic relations with the U.S.A. to punish her! Furthermore, the horrifying, barbaric use of hundreds (or is it thousands?) of tons of deadly depleted uranium against Iraq by both the United States and England surely constitutes the biggest war crime since Hiroshima and Nagasaki if not in fact (with all due respect to the terrible sufferings of the noble Japanese people) the biggest war crime in the history of the world!!! Anyway, what is a U.S. embassy really? It’s just an (often huge) CIA base inside your own country daily and nightly undermining your own sovereignty… A country needs a U.S. embassy like it needs a hole in the head!

From his website, as of June 2003 he was in the Phillipines. Chess Review recently had a column about him, which stated that he was then in the Phillipines. You know he can’t return to America because he would be arrested after going to Yuogslavia despite the fact that it was illegal at the time.

And before that, it was pretty well known that he hung out in Budapest for several years. IIRC, he moved to the Philippines around 2000. He was interviewed on Hungarian radio in '98 or '99 and proceeded to go off on some anti-Semitic rampage (completely non sequitor of the subject at hand.) When the host remarked that he thought Fischer was Jewish, Bobby responded by saying something like, “No, I’m not; come into the bathroom and I’ll prove it to you.” The guy is a bonafide nutcase. Occassionally, he’d be spotted in the city, but, except for this telephone interview on a radio show, he kept a very low profile.
