Where is Buckaroo Banzai?

I can’t believe there is no VHS or DVD of “The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension”! There is no DVD of Branagh’s Hamlet, AARGH!

You know, it’s only a small conceptual step from “I want this, therefore it should exist” to “I don’t want this, therefore it should not exist.” This is how pogroms get started.

Get over it, goboy.

Maybe the same reason there is no DVD of any Star Wars movie?

Buckaroo Banzai was released on VHS at some point, it’s just out of print now. That movie has such a cult following that there’s always a chance it will pop up again somewhere. Check the internet auction sites as well.

BB’s creators were working on turning it into a television series, but I haven’t heard anything about it for a few months.

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension has been released in video and laser disc… but both are out of print, so make sure to pick it up if you ever see one.

I’ve seen it replayed a few times both on TV and in smaller movie theaters (the non-chain ones). The last time was at the Parkway Theater in Oakland (http://www.picturepubpizza.com) where a large group of us (over a dozen, I think, though under 20) sat on big couches, ate pizza and drank beer while watching this. It was almost a Rocky Horror experience, in that many of us could repeat some of the more famous lines along with the actors (fortunately this did not happen frequently as to cause too much consternation).

E-bay will sometimes have a used copy of the book or video available, and it’s amazing haw fast the cost rises. Even a ratty paperback is damned difficult to get.

I heard the rumors about the show in development. Maybe they are waiting to see if it drums up interest outside of the small but devoted BB cult following before issuing the DVD.

My dad bought a copy on VHS about 10 years ago. We all fell asleep when we tried to watch it. Now it’s selling eBay for $15-$25+? I’ll have to get him to sell it before they re-release it.

Thanks for the help. guys. George Lucas, give us Star Wars on DVD!
Knead to Know, since this is not the Pit, I will not let you know my opinion of your post.

Hey baglady, I think I was at that showing. Small world ain’t it.

C’mon. You can’t compare wanting a DVD of Buckaroo Banzia with a pogrom.
Now if he wanted one of, say, Showgirls…

Huh ? I thought this had to do with the original claiming to have a sequel [at the end of the credits: “BB will be back in BB and the…yada, yada”].

That bad, huh ?

To answer the question posed in the thread title:

One thing’s for sure. Wherever he’s gone, there he is.
