Just what it says. I can find lists for all mods ever, retired mods etc. But I can not find the current list by forum, like who mods Great Debates or Cafe Society. I blame the heat. And all the beer I had to drink to stay cool.
Right in the FAQ is the most up to date spot.
Thanks I’ve been looking for that list myself. But it’s not “Right there” it’s buried under an infinite scroll of text not exactly handy.
Seems to me a better spot is under the users link grouped by moderators, put their forum duties there.
Slightly easier to find, but less comprehensive than the list What_Exit provided, is a pinned topic in each forum titled “About the [FORUM NAME] category”, which lists only the mods for that particular forum.
Thanks, that will work. ECG must be psychotic, he knew @Aspenglow was going to be a mod back in September 2020!
I was thinking there was a list under the user groups in the hamburger menu but no joy.
Well, easier for people that didn’t unpin those topics a long time ago to free up screen space. Not that I know anyone that may have done that.
I’m thinking you meant psychic, although I can’t read your mind.
Oops! That’s a family/friend inside joke to use psychotic instead of psychic because a 10 year old niece said that once. However, ECG could be both psychic and psychotic. It’s hard to tell from here.
The hamburger menu then about: gives a list of the mods but not assignments. About - Straight Dope Message Board
That is probably what you were thinking of.
From the FAQ you should have the most updated rules, the mod assignment list, and links to every forum specific rule. Along with other useful related threads.
I recommend either repinning this one thread or adding a shortcut to it.
Yes, that’s the one I remember. Just remembered the actual info it displayed wrong. Thanks.
Well, (blushing) you now know someone who did that.
And I lived to rue the day.
Yep, you think you’ll never need them until you actually do need them. Then it’s where the $%*& did I put that thing?!
A quick way to do it by forum is just to hover your mouse over the “About” thread for the forum, pinned at the top of the display for the forum.
Hovering over the “About the About This Message Board category” brings up “Moderators: @engineer_comp_geek” as part of the description.
That works in the Straight Dope Light skin but not the Discourse-classic one.
I prefer the Discourse-classic skin, for several reasons but partly because my avatar looks hideous against that blue background.
That may work in some themes, but not all. It may work with Microsoft machines or those with a mouse. It doesn’t work with my iOS or touchscreen. That is frustrating.
Hovering never does any good if you have a modern laptop with a touch screen.
It would be nice if the info were in the hamburger menu, but i think that’s a canned thing that works exactly the same on every Discourse site, and not a thing that’s easy to customize.
I re-pinned a few threads some time ago just because i often need to look up who mods which forum.
Not only that, but I use Straight Dope Light and if you just look at the root of ATMB, under the thread called " About the About This Message Board category" it says:
For all questions, comments, and complaints about the SDMB. This is also the place for test threads. Moderators : @engineer_comp_geek
No need to hover over anything, it says it right out. (This is in MS Edge on Windows 10.)
I remember asking about this, but I’m unclear what the answer was… there is a way to set up category specific moderators in Discourse via the category permissions. When you do this, the moderators will show up alongside the category they moderate on the /about page, like so:
You can also see category specific moderators on our meta site here (scroll down)
https://meta.discourse.org/about
For some reason, that isn’t set up here. It’d be a lot easier for the system to maintain the list of category specific moderators.
Paging @engineer_comp_geek, just making sure you see the above post. Might be useful?
Thank you, that looks interesting. Plus, it would be another thing the could then be deleted from the forum rules type pinned topics. The shorter the pinned topics can be, the better. Or you get some people, unnamed, who may unpin stuff because they take up an entire screen in some forums and may only need to be referred to every year or two.
We looked at category specific moderators but that was too limiting for how we do things. The way that we have it set up now works best for us.
