Where might I find 'non-thick' sneaker shoes?

I’m in a bit of a dilemma. I went shopping before Christmas for some clothes and in particular window showing for casual shoes.

I saw some very nice ‘sneakers’ or canvas for €120. The reason sneakers is in quotes is because I’m not exactly sure whether that’s what they were. The definitely did not have the same thickness as the sneakers I see, and they looked more like a classy Timberland shoe (weren’t boots though) rather than a sports shoe, however I forgot to check the labels.

I have a gift voucher for €200 for multiple shops which I can use online that expires at the end of January. I don’t want to buy things in a rush and I really would like o purchase a pair of shoes like that.

Does anyone have an idea what this shoe might be?

A boat shoe?

Do you mean something like this as far as style? Has sort of a sneaker look but not something you’d consider an athletic shoe.

Chuck Taylors?

Vibrams and Merrells are both designed to mimic being barefoot, with just a thin rubber sole and some tread. But they are designed for running, and don’t look anything like boots or Timberlands. They’re in the <$100 range.

Another option is dress shoes, which usually dispense with the pointlessly thick, cushioned basketball shoe soles and go with something flatter like leather plus rubber with a small wooden heel. Decent ones will set you back more than $100 though. And there are so many styles and brands I can’t begin to list them.

These Taos Footwear Stars have a lot of support for being a low profile sneaker. No idea if this is what you are looking for, but they are very comfortable.

Adidas has several styles that are fairly thin. I’ve owned two different models – the old Stockholms when I did track (shot-put) and Sambas as a driving shoe.
Stockholm

Samba

I am not sure just what the newest names and styles are but the brand has always been good for me.
