Where shall I post my "I need an introduction to...?" threads?

I am looking to learn more about the Vedas and the Upanishads, and I’d like to start a thread on the matter, where folks who know something on these matters suggest some good source material (bibliography, websites, etc.) for someone who knows diddly about it. Where would I put that thread? General Questions (I’m not looking for facts, exactly)? Cafe Society (it’s not art or entertainment per se)?

I’m also looking for the same kind of thing on Noam Chomsky. He’s written so much that I’m not going to go take a forklift down to the public library … just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on where to start.

I would post in IMHO.

It’s not a GD, but it’s not a GQ. It’s somewhere in between…

If it is a request for sources, that is a GQ. “Where can I find…?” That’s a GQ.

If it is also for discussion of the material, then probably IMHO.

Now were do I put my “I need an introduction to Avril Lavigne” thread?

FYI, a couple of months ago there was a thread in GQ, Noam Chomsky - Who is this guy?. The thread addressed his two major roles, linguist and political commentator, and provided some references to other works. Because he can be such a polarizing figure, the thread was closed off before it could veer into a debate.

I am not a mod, but if it were phrased properly, I think that a general request for information on the Vedas and the Upanishads could very well be a GQ thread.

Thanks everybody. I chose GQ.

Heh. I thought it was funny that somebody in the Chomsky thread said his influence on linguistics could not be overstated.

“Linguistics was invented by Chomsky and every single idea on the subject came straight from him.”

That about does it.
