Yesterday, someone put a cel phone in our mail slot, leaving a note stating that they found it in front of our house.

Yes, Verizon has discovered the Power of the Gatekeeper, and has convinced Motorola to cripple phones. At my last check, my V276 cannot be modded to add ringtones, and I was checking the Howard Forums mentioned above. I think they’re hiding the files that are the actual ringers, otherwise it would be discovered what kind of files are needed and where to put them. I’ll have to check back there again.
When I went through the security check at the Cleveland airport last Sunday, I had a cell phone.
When I boarded the airplane for Atlanta, I did not. (have a cell phone) So I, too, am on a mission for a new phone.
Primary consideration is acquiring a phone that can get a signal at my house, as the last phone would not. It was a Motorola phone, through Cingular.
The occasional passer-by with Verizon can get calls here, or Southern Linc also works.
So: Does coverage have to do with the quality of antenna the specific phone has, the company’s coverage of the area, a combination of both, or what? Do they give “loaners” so I can take one home to see if it works here?

For what it’s worth, I picked up anLG VX8300.
It found it superior to Verizon’s RAZR VX-3m in terms of size, battery life and ergonomics. It has every feature the RAZR has plus a flash and speakerphone.

I dropped my Samsung SCH A650 in a pint of beer last weekend. Like my uncle who drowned in a vat of Irish whiskey, I tried saving it, but it put up too good a fight. THis was 9 days before my new every two eligibility kicked in. After much wailing and gnashing of teeth, as well as a threat to switch providers, they adjusted my date.
That phone kicks ass.
I bought a mobile phone years ago when they first came out.
It is really chunky and has big buttons with few features.
If I leave it lying about, nobody touches it - because it’s ugly and out of date. :eek:
Maybe you could disguise your latest model with an ugly overlay?
