What's the best way to carry a cell phone?

A cell phone is now as indispensable walking-around accoutrement as a wallet or keys. However, technology has not yet reached the point where you can have one permanently implanted in your skull. So how to carry it around? My cell phone came with a case that clipped onto my belt, but that was awkward and irritated my skin. It’s just a bit to heavy and bulky to fit comfortably in a pants pocket, let alone a shirt pocket. I always carry mine in my jacket pocket, if I’m wearing a jacket; otherwise, it keep it in the soft-sided leather briefcase/bookbag that I always carry around (don’t want to risk being caught without reading material). Is there a better way?

Held up to your ear while driving?

I keed, I keed.

Used to have the same problem. Got a Razr V3. Problem solved, pants pockets fine.

I got the Razr as well and now my problem is that I’m afraid I’ll forget to take it out of my pocket before I do the wash. It’s that small.

No, it ain’t! I want at least part of a day when I’m not tethered to a telephone’s beck and call.

Most of them come with a handy OFF button.

I carry my cell phone all the time, but it’s rarely on. It’s for my use in calling out, not for people to call and bother me. (And only about 5 people max have the number, and they know not to call it unless it’s arranged ahead of time, for example if we need to meet up somewhere.)

Oh, and it’s usually at the bottom of my purse, but it also fits nicely in a pocket. It has a vibrating battery. Oooh baby, call me again!

My manservant, Hobbes, carries mine for me.

Like the others say, the best way is to get a smaller phone. And, like the others, I’ve got a RAZR. They’ve been around long enough that you can probably upgrade to one pretty cheaply.

If that’s too big for ya, Motorola recently introduced a thinner phone called SLVR.

When they get to the NEDL or SPLNTR, be careful that you don’t get it stuck under a fingernail.

I’ve got the SPCK. I carry it under my fingernail.

So, apparently vowels are so 20th century now?

I don’t know what kind of phone I have, as it’s been passed down to me by people who are willing to spend hundreds of dollars getting brand new phones all the time. It’s a flip phone, and it fits perfectly in the coin pocket of my jeans. I could never go back, because I hate having things in my actual pockets all day.

Yes, I know they make belt clips, but those are a gateway accessory. Next thing you know you’re wearing Dockers and drinking Chablis. Not in this lifetime.

Minor hijack. I’m probably gonna buy a Razr; are you satisfied with it?

My husband got a RAZR - he’s not entirely satisfied with the performance, compared to the Nokia he had before he got it. It cuts out a lot, the sound quality isn’t as good, it doesn’t have as many cool features, etc. (Same carrier as before, so it can’t be that). I hate talking to him on the damn thing - which is too bad, because it is cool-looking and very compact, and I’d get one if it didn’t SUCK!! (YMMV)

I have a Motorola flip phone at the moment, though I’m changing providers and getting a new phone soon. Folded up, it’s about an inch thick, vast compared to a RAZR or similar thingy. I have to keep it in my purse if I’m not wearing pants with pockets.

I have a RAZR and while it’s not heavy on the features, I love it. I have a Pocket PC for all the other stuff I might need so a nice, compact phone that IMO is really easy on the eyes was perfect for me. I love that I can slip mine into my back pocket, as it feels awkward in my front pockets.

One thing that I am pleased with is its battery life - for its size, it can go quite a long time without a recharge - I think I have to put mine on the charger every three days. Granted, I’m not on it any great amount of time, but I do use it.

In short: I love it.

Every three days? I charge my Nokia once a week! And the only time I turn it off is when I’m in a hospital! (Disclaimer: I don’t go to movie theaters.)

Maybe I don’t talk on mine as much as you, though. I should ask my husband how often he charges his RAZR - he talks a lot!

How big is your Nokia? Considering the size of the Razr, 3 days worth of use before it starts beeping at me was pretty impressive to me - I’ve had phones in the past that I had to charge every night. Also, I use mine with my bluetooth headset quite a bit, which uses up more battery power even when I’m not using it because the bluetooth radio stays on until I disconnect the headset.

When we got our current phones (I have an LG with {gasp} no camera), I told the phone guy I would need any special case, I’d carry it in my pocket. He was aghast. He said the sweat and condensation in my pocket would damage the phone, and moisture damage is not covered by the warranty. So, I carry the inconvenient lump on my belt.

A friend of mine wears a wireless earpiece all the time. It looks like an old fashioned hearing aid, except for the bluish silver color and the little LED that flashes every few seconds. It makes him look faintly robotic, especially that flasher.

I keep mine clenched between my asscheeks.

Unfortunately, almost as big as a computer mouse. Hmmm - didn’t consider the Bluetooth factor.

On “ring” or on “vibrate”? :stuck_out_tongue:
