Where the Hell Is the Tea Party?

I treated myself to listen to Sean Halfwitty on the way home from work. Oh, the sweet agony! If only they had stood firm! If only Linus could find the most sincere pumpkin patch, he’d see the Great Pumpkin.

I have always enjoyed Mencken and I find many of his rants to be both amusing (as this one was–mildly) and informative. However, the rant quoted’s amusement value was far overshadowed by its plain ignorance of the farming industry even when it was written and has no bearing on the American farm industry, today.

Never actually liked him much, his humor tends to be bitter and joyless, more akin to Bierce than Twain and not nearly as witty as either.

Mencken was anti-Semitic, too. And an after-the-fact Cornfed sympathizer, yet.

Any argument assuming the superior value of a gentry class to a merchant class does not merit further consideration.
