I have two laptops, of fairly recent vintage.
Fairly, meaning my Compaq is about 3 years old, and my HP mini is about 7 months old.
So, batteries no good in either. Where does one buy them? I don’t mean on eBay, I mean if I have a business appointment at 1 pm and I lose a battery at noon. I’m expecting that there aren’t any HP stores around town. So, where is the place that I can drive to and get one of these rascals?
The bigger electronics stores will usually carry spare batteries for the particular laptops they stock. You could probably find something for the HP mini, but unless Compaq has continued to make models similar to yours, you probably won’t find one in a store.
Best Buy and similar stores will probably carry a smaller range of batteries, but they’re easier to find. You’d probably have more luck at a Fry’s or a Microcenter if there’s one nearby.
These aren’t normally in store retail items. I’ve occasionally seen a few HP notebook batteries in big box retailers, but only for the most popular notebooks. The vast majority of notebook batteries are sold online.
The best computers go jankey at one point or another. Unless you know someone who can make it work like new, it’s always a good idea to get a warranty for a year or two. I got mine from Best Buy. My battery started getting a little wiggly, shutting down the computer (but only when playing Civ 5) and I got a new one from UPS.
And it sounds like you got bigger problems than computer batteries.
Always have purchased mine on ebay from sellers with a 99% rating or above. Always work great. Using one right now that’s just 6-8 weeks old in a 3.5 y.o. macbook pro.
