I’ve been collecting the Discworld books. I have a 1st edition paperback of Eric in Very Good+ condition which I’m not going to keep. It’s probably worth $40-$50 US. Amazon here doesn’t have many Pterry books, nor does eBay. Alibris is the place, but I’m not signing up to sell 1 book. How should I market this puppy?
eBay.
Sell it in the Amazon Marketplace. It’s easier than eBay because you set your own price (based on the price of new and other used copies for sale), and just leave it listed there until someone buys it for your price. You don’t have to take a picture or write an auction description or anything, just a short description of the condition and any distinguishing features.
If it’s a rare book, pay attention to the other sellers’ prices, and either undercut them, or just list it for what you think it’s worth. You can always change your own price, and you may want to when other sellers start trying to undercut yours.
The buyers pay shipping (a flat $3.99 for Media Mail), and you have to ship it within two business days. Amazon takes a cut – something like 15% – but it’s so much easier than dealing with flakes and worrying about bidders reaching the price you want on eBay.
I’ve been selling in Amazon Marketplace for years, & it is mostly a good experience.
No fee unless you sell.
