There was mention of the Columbia being stored in the Vehicle Assembly Building (VAB), claimed to be the world’s largest building (by volume). Anyhow, is the shuttle fleet stored here…with room left over for rocket assembly? (Although overshadowed, some satellites are still launched the “old-fashioned” way. And, I assume such rockets are assembled here.)
I don’t think that the shuttles are “stored” in the classical sense. Once they land, they are continually worked on until their next flight. Given that, they are kept for a while (two-thirds of the ime between flights) in the three Orbiter Processing Facilities.
But technically, you could store the shuttles plenty of places. They aren’t that big - smaller than a lot of passenger planes. You don’t need the VAB, just a hangar. (The VAB is big enough though.)
