Where was this photo taken? (Rock tower)

Monkey Face at Smith Rock St. Park in Oregon

As a neat point, you can go to https://images.google.com/ , and do a reverse image search, and Google will tell you where it thinks the picture was taken. In this case it correctly finds Smith rock state park.

It’s one of the lesser known Google features.

Tell those two lowlifes to GET OFF MY LAWN!

Just an aside: Smith Rock is a really cool place, even if you’re not a rock climber. It’s like a mini Grand Canyon in a place surrounded by flatlands.

added to next month’s road trip

You have to hike down into the canyon, then cross a foot bridge to the path along Crooked River. There is a hiking path that will take you up and over, but it was inaccessible when we were there, due to rock fall.

Thanks, I will check the conditions before I go there.

What?! The only thing that isn’t lesser known than Google reverse image search is probably…just using Google for searching. Lesser known would be something like typing >>do a barrel roll<<

Can someone give me a quick TL;DR on how to do a google reverse-image search? Do you just drag-and-drop any image into the same input box where you normally type the search text? Or type a URL to an image there? (In any case, it’s not going to work on my ancient browser, but still, be nice to know how.)

Does that barrel roll trick still work too? I’ve never actually seen it in action.

That was a couple of years ago, so I’m sure things have changed.

Re: google image search–I tried plugging in the URL of the photo but that didn’t seem to work. So instead I snipped and saved the image, used the “upload” search option, and voila.

I’ve been to Smith Rock SP, but it was really hot and I didn’t make it over to where Monkey Face is. I hope to make it back someday to explore some more. It’s a neat place.

You can do either one. But if you use a URL, it has to be a URL directly to the image, which the URL in the OP is not – it is the URL of a website upon which the image features prominently, but not a direct link.

Just type into the search bar, with no quotes, brackets or anything else: do a barrel roll and hit return.
