I worked at an Ace Hardware in high school and college. People started calling me Ace. I liked the nic and kept it.
We have a couple of neurotic Border Collies.
Arrested Development.
Ha!! I’ve seen the show a few times in my life, never made the connection. Thanks.
I was born in Sandy Hook, Kentucky.
Have you been in North Oakland/Berkeley lately? That guy is really smart, but fucking nuts!
Um. I have explained before.
absolutely nowhere.
which sorta pisses me off. Why can’t anything creative come half as easily in my personal life?
Ha. No, but close. Really, really close. (with the name, I mean–not to her or what she does)
I was watching my digital TV pixal-ize an image just because the signal wasn’t perfect, and started musing over the downsides of digital technology. Stringing together a bunch of 0’s and 1’s lets us do lots of stuff, but there are trade-offs.
On the bright side, I make cell phones for a living…so there’s a significant upside too.
You need to start a thread on this issue, if there isn’t one already. I find the distinction itself to be almost digital! Or analog.
I’m an avid gamer and have used this name as a RP character name for a very long time. I’d RP it as a spin off from Young Frankenstein, where I was a poor landless nobleman off looking for his wife who had run off with her boyfriend.
Favorite constellation is Orion. Used to use it in all my online games, but somebody took it once, so I came up with this as I was sure noone would take it (or really even want to take it).
Done.

Old comic strip (Krazy Kat).
I lurked for 5 years or so before I …
Dzero is one of the experiments at Fermilab’s Tevitron (synchrotron - like LHC but smaller). I really admire scientists and particle physicists especially but never had the ability to go that way myself. So I guess picking a username like that makes me a poseur of sorts but since only people who have some interest in what goes on at Fermilab would know about it of the top of their heads, hopefully not too many people realize this.
Ooops.
Taomist is a conglomerate of Taolynn and Mistwalk, my first two MMO characters of note.
hehe, I’m similar. Grew up outside Chicago, and my dad used to drive us through the Fermilab area. The building itself, that double-skyscraper thingy with the bridge, that was neat on it’s own, but I also recall driving through a bunch of small, simple square houses in a variety of colors…pink, bright blue, green, etc…that were on the grounds. I somehow got it in my head that they were experiment houses, like they did bombs on them or something and then tested for radiation.
The main building is incredibly impressive. I guess it’s about 15 stories and the lobby atrium goes right to the top floor IIRC.
When I was there, they had a pendulum suspended from the ceiling. It was a huge brass ball with a stylus attached. It was making the typical pattern in a large tray of sand.
That building was as awe inspiring as any gothic cathedral I’ve ever been in, and when I was in SW England, London and Paris I od’ed on gothic cathedrals.
Inspired in the early 80’s by a college professor’s insistence on making a programming interface “user-friendly”. To which I replied, “As opposed to ‘user-hostile?’”
