Where's the best hamburger you have ever eaten?

That old cheeseburger in paradise, Jimmy Buffett, claimed it was at the Dew Drop Inn in Mobile, Alabama. It ain’t, but it wasn’t bad.

rocks

{enthusiastic agreement w/ Sylence for the Durango burger)

A (blush) forgotten eatery in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, at least 10 years ago. JH wasn’t trendy then, I was twitching after a nightmare 14 hour drive in a freak storm; it had scarred wooden floors, 2 drunks at the bar and the food was divine.

I’d landed a dubious motel and went out into the snow in search of anything to eat. (The motel snack machine was out of even day-glo orange “cheese” and peanut butter crackers.)

The burger was perfectly marbled ground beef, seared and rare; generous in size, served on an appropriate and complementary fresh bun; one crisp lettuce leaf, transparent onion slices, a few crisp dill pickles and a whisper of salt. (I added near-Puritanical dollops of yellow mustard and ketchup).

It was Classic Burger-dom. The fries snuggling alongside were fresh, golden/crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside.

Two good beers alongside and I had DINED. It was wonderful. I slept like a baby and godbless that unknown cook who whomped up a simple, perfect meal.

sigh

I want to hit the road again.

Love the burgers at a place here called Whistlin’ Dixie, a BBQ joint. First, they use only Angus beef in everything they serve. Second, they use real cheese, not some funky orange cheeselike nontoxic food substance. Third, they give you little loaves of bread with honey butter before your meal arrives. They saw one of those loaves in half, and that’s your bun.

Oh my my MY…

Best Burger, eh? Well there are two places that i know of around the Bay Area, CA. Val’s in Hayward and Clark’s in San Mateo.
Val’s has been around so long, my great-grandmother/father used to eat there. The menu boards they have up on the walls have the price for a 1 lb. burger at a buck and two bits. They have a special “aged” beef combined with secret spices according to their menu. They grill that baby up and put her on a toasted sourdough roll with grilled onions and all the rest of the fixin’s. I have no idea how long Clark’s has been around but their burgers rate just a tad under Val’s. My friend swears by a place called Muder Burger by Edwards Air Force base, i think, but i have never been there.
So, anyone else in the Bay Area know of a good buger joint that i can test drive?

Hamburger Mary’s in San Francisco makes a wicked bad and extremely messy burger.

Fuddrucker’s burgers are the best… hands down, bar none.
Beef ground daily; 1/3, 1/2, 2/3 and full pound sizes; buns baked on site; extensive fixin’s bar…

Johnson’s Beach, Gurneville, CA. Best cheeseburgers ever.

Flatlander’s. Truly a heavenly experience. Actual rare hamburgers–it’ll kill ya, but what won’t?

Hey, I like that hat, man. They sell men’s clothes where you got that?

This makes me think…does the " Big kahuna burger" in pulp fiction really exist?

Mine too, mangeorge.Drooling even! sigh And you’re all the way out in Cali. :frowning:

Next to that, I’d say my hubby’s, home grilled, and then Rooty’s, where they make their own rootbeer, even. Yuummm! Rooty’s is right here in SA, btw.
ok, now I’ll have to have a snack. sigh.

Zeenard: Not since the 70’s. The art department recreated the papers for the film, as well as the cereal box Eric Stoltz eats out of.

“His eyes are as green as a fresh-pickled toad,
His hair is as dark as a blackboard,
I wish he was mine, he’s really divine,
The hero who conquered the Dark Lord.”

An In-N-Out burger soon after I’d returned from Romania. After a month of tomatoes, cabbage, cucumbers, spicy sausage, bread, tripe, and soup, that burger was goooooooooood!

My dad’s homemade burgers are the absolute best. Coming in second has to be Cheeseburgers in Paradise (no connection to Jimmy Buffett–don’t know how they manage that)in Blowing Rock, North Carolina (great hot wings, too!) Third will have to go to a really small greasy spoon here in town called the Horseshoe Lounge (no, it’s not a strip joint or anything like that!) It is legendary around these parts for the best burgers! I also second Fuddruckers but that’s mostly because of the toppings they offer!

I always try to do things in chronological order.

The best I’ve ever tasted were Marcus burgers from Hamtramic Michigan, a predominately polish community.
I also like White Castle Hamburgers(commonly called Sliders(Fast Food(Both Ways)))

The Corral, in Dallas, across the street from the old Dr. Pepper building. Out on Mockingbird, IIRC. Real, live, genuine greaseburgers and perfect onion rings. Curb side service by lovely car hops, as they were known in those days. Don’t know if the place still exists.

Does a veggie burger count? Fuddrucker’s

I love all hamburgers, but by far the best burger I’ve ever eaten was in Pittsburgh PA in a place called “Fuel and Fuddle” (I think that’s the spelling) It was made with buffalo meat so I’m not sure if that counts, but the meat was so lean and tasty I almost wanted to purge just so I could eat another one.

Why is it that all the best burgers are in California? When I was in L.A. for the '97 Rose Bowl (go Bucks!), our group ate nothing for 6 days but burgers. In-n-Out, Fatburger, and plenty of little diner burgers. My favorite was several blocks from my friends house in Hermosa Beach, F.F.F.F. (Fat Face Fenners Faloon). HUGE patty, diced lettuce, monster slabs of pickle and dripping with juice.
Mmmmmmmmmm…

There was a Bob’s Big Boy (is that right?) just outside of March AFB in Riverside, CA. I still remember the taste of the chili cheeseburger to this day. Did they get rid of the Big Boys?

Honorable mention to a little cafe in north Las Vegas just outside of Nellis AFB that served up cheeseburgers the size of small dinner plates. It was called the “F-15 Burger”. Should’ve named it “The Hindenburg” if you wanted to stick with an aviation motif. It was not only big, but it tasted just like “heaven on earth with an onion slice”, to quote Monsieur Buffett.
