Which band do you like more: Oasis or Radiohead?

Pretty straightforward question.

I am slowly moving from classic 60’s, 70’s and 80’s rock to 90’s rock and I must admit that both these bands are quite cool and talented. However I would give my nod to Oasis.

Which band do you like more?

Aren’t they the same?

ZING!

Oasis. What’s the Story, Morning Glory? is one of my favorite albums of the 90s.

**Radiohead **is by far the better band, but I rock out to **Oasis **more. Chalk and cheese, really - with perhaps the exception of RH’s The Bends, which has enough rock in it to actually compare vs., say, Definitely Maybe…

But Oasis is snotty rock that is more attitude than content; Radiohead is angsty, existential exploration set to music. Again - chalk and cheese.

I couldn’t agree more; Radiohead is far superior. They’ve gotten a little wrist-cutty with their latest release but it’s still beautiful music.

I don’t think I even know an Oasis song (or at least one that ever resonated with me enough that I wanted to know “who was that?”), but there are few things I’ve heard by Radiohead that I didn’t like.

Radiohead by a factor of 1^10. I wouldn’t have even thought to compare them.

Some Radiohead tracks* leave me thinking WTF was that?, but I tend to like their more tuneful efforts a lot. Oasis always seemed rather ordinary, even retro to me, but I’ve only heard their singles.*

*Is that still an acceptable term? “Song” doesn’t seem quite right for the sort of thing I’m thinking of.
**Although in these digital download days, I guess everything’s a single. I’ll be on my porch.

Here’s where I come out of the closet a little bit. I don’t much like Radiohead as I find their sound unpleasant to listen to. It makes me physically uncomfortable. Sure they have a few of my favorite videos but I rarely if ever listen to their music if I can help it. My friends are MASSIVE Radiohead fans so I just say I like them to save me hassle, but I really don’t enjoy listening to them at all.

Oasis is okay so I guess that is my answer. Champagne Supernova is a pretty good song.

Wow, I find it hard to even put these two bands in the same context - other than the fact that their both British I guess. They don’t have a similar sound at all (at least not since OK Computer).

For me Radiohead is by far superior, but I can see how that wouldn’t be the case for everyone.

So, they’re equal, then?

I’m not a Radiohead fanatic but I’d put them miles ahead of Oasis in creativity, talent, and pretty much every category that matters. It’s not that I dislike Oasis’ music but I don’t think they’re in the same league.

I like Radiohead a little bit more, but I saw Oasis live a few years back. Other than the fact it took the guys almost an hour after the scheduled start time to get their butts on stage it was a really good show, and I probably prefer “Champagne Supernova” to any Radiohead song. I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to see Radiohead in concert since it would cost too much and they never visit a city near me.

Oasis had one and a half great albums and a few decent songs since.
Radiohead have had a much more consistent body of work.

Pretty much what omgzebras said. This sort of reminds me of my very naive youth when I wondered (aloud, unfortunately) who was better, Stevie Wonder or Lionel Richie.

Math is hard.

I really thought I had typed 1*10^10.

Blur-- by a large margin.

Oasis has some produced some genuinely brilliant music but Radiohead is orders of magnitude beyond in terms of vision, creativity, influence, etc… No contest.

I think many would agree that Radiohead is one one of the most important bands of the last 15+ years.

I can’t really speak for their entire catalogs, but IMHO Radiohead’s Paranoid Android, is pretty epic and at the top of the pile for any single songs between the two; good video too. However, if I were to be stuck on an island with only one album of either groups, it would be Oasis’s WtSMG? .

Radiohead are in a different street, surprised to see the comparison tbh.

When they were both starting out you would have said it was the other way round - Definitely Maybe is miles better than Pablo Honey, which is a bit of a weak generic Indie effort. Radiohead were just geting started with that though, whereas DM was as good as Oasis were ever going to get IMO.

Liam Gallagher does have a fantastic voice though. He often spoils it by hamming up his Manc accent, but he’s fundamentally a great rock vocalist.

I don’t get why it is so fashionable to vastly prefer Radiohead to Oasis. And yes, I think it’s mostly fashion, not actual taste.

  • They do completely different things. Radiohead is more complex, but Oasis rocks.

  • OK Computer is a masterpiece. The best work of both bands. But the albums Radiohead made after that are not as good as Oasis’ two first albums, unless you think electronica is better than rock. (Btw, it’s not just me saying this. Critics agree.)
