In the Dallas area and moving from the big city to a suburb, I’d like to know which well-known bank you’d feel your business would be safest with for computer banking. Which has the best reputation in your opinion?
A credit union, if they have one.
Why do you need to switch banks? Keep the same bank to give yourself a reason to waste away the day in the city. Check for branches of your current bank. See which group of ATMs your current bank is affiliated with to lower the transaction fees. I’m not positive a local bank is actually the best option anymore. Credit Unions are another option and some have home/work location membership restrictions.
Go Credit Union.
I do, & never regretted it.
When I moved, I chose the bank with a branch right next to my place of work.
I rarely need to step foot inside the bank.
But when I do, the bank is only open during my regular working hours.
With a branch across the street from my office, I can get there easily.
No need to notify my boss that I have to leave work 2 hours early today.
Be sure to look under the covers. Banks, like many businesses these days, aren’t necessarily who they say they are. They may be a subsidiary of some other much larger bank or other financial business. I recently learned that my bank is a subsidiary of some huge French bank that I’ve otherwise never heard of. And some banks, like supermarket chains, do business under different names in different regions of the country.
And credit cards! Banks buy and sell their credit card operations to one another, like kids trading baseball cards. Once sold, the card may continue using the name and logo of the previous bank. Is that Bank of America card in your wallet really a Bank of America card? When you charge something to your HSBC card, are you really getting a loan from HSBC Bank? (I think the answer to that last question is Yes, now, but that wasn’t always so.)
I think you should start by checking which banks and credit unions have branches where you’re going to live or where you’re going to work. Which one has branches in the supermarkets in the area? Once you’ve identified the local branches, you can check the reputations of the banks.
