Currently I’m pondering on which novel to read for my English class- “Dune” or “The Once and Future King.” I enjoy both genres, and the length really isn’t of much relevance. Presumably I’ll use whichever book primarily for finding allusions, metaphors, motifs, syntax study, etc. So, which do you recommend, and why?Bonus if you’ve read both.
Well, I just reread The Sword in the Stone, the 1st book of The Once & Future King, & perhaps you might do better reading Dune. As with CS Lewis’s Narnia stories, I find that I enjoyed them a lot as a kid but looking on them now with an older eye the subtexts are too irritatingly intrusive for me to fully enjoy the stories.
I think he means the book by T.H. White.
Read both! They’re both good. Although they both have their faults. I thought OAFK got a lot less interesting after the part about Arthur’s education with Merlin.
And Dune can be sort of poderous. But it might more fun to play around with looking for allusions, motifs, etc.
I’d think I’d say Dune.
