Which celebrity's fashion do you follow?

I’ve had it on good authority that one way to help you find nice outfits is to pick a celebrity whose fashion you like and just copy them.

My number one person is Boris Kodjoe. I don’t really know who he is but based on google images he wears a lot of clothing that I would.

Adam Levine, lead singer of Maroon 5. I don’t copy the tattoos, nor when he dresses down, but he (or his stylist) knows how to accessorize suits and formal wear.

Justin Timberlake… except for his hats.

None. why would I do such a thing?

What good authority? Watching celebrity fashion is great fun. These people are often genetically gifted, have carefully tended bodies & can afford the best clothing. For Red Carpet events, many of the ladies wear borrowed designer frocks & incredible jewelry–that will go back into the jewelers’ vaults at the end of the night.

Yet, it’s amazing how often the stars look like dogs’ breakfasts. There’s an entire industry based on critiquing fashion crimes; Fashion Police is a favorite guilty pleasure.

–I really like Helena Bonham Carter’s look. But, despite a liberal dress code, it just wouldn’t do at work.

None. Celebrity style is what you watch in order to know what not to wear. Otherwise, you just end up looking like a wannabe, and that too, seldom in a good way.

If you really want to develop a sense of style (assuming that you do not already one), then spend some time studying the oeuvres of the classic couture houses, over several decades, spanning early, mid and late 20th century. You will soon learn to recognize the elements that have survived various trends, and continue to delight even today. See how individual cuts, styles, fabrics and accessories harmonize with each other. Et Voila! You have now developed a sense of style. You do not have to actually buy any couture pieces, because classical elements of style will be found even in modern pieces .

Of course, if you are already confident of you own sense of aesthetics, then just ignore the above advice and carry on wearing whatever it is that delights your inner eye. After all, the only thing that fashion frowns upon is boredom, and it would so boring if all of us were classic at all times.

I used to keep an eye on how clothes looked on Paige Davis of Trading Spaces, because I thought we had a similar body type.

I think the world would be a better place if more guys dressed like Dean Stockwell did on Quantum Leap.

Nick Nolte

If your answer is “none,” why bother to post? That’s not an answer to the question. Why not just start another thread about “Why Would You Follow a Celebrity’s Fashion?”

Honestly, except for those who have rather outrageous outfits when they perform, like Lady Gaga or Elton John, I don’t think what a celebrity wears even registers with me. Perhaps if there was a celeb shaped like I am, I might notice, but there aren’t many out there (in fact, I can’t think of any off the top of my head.) And on the occasion that I notice an exceptionally striking ensemble, at most, my reaction might be “I wish I could wear something like that…”

Now, thinking waaaaaaaay back when the Monkees were on TV, I did go out and buy a flowered shirt with white collar and cuffs, but other than that, I don’t think I’ve ever looked to a star for fashion ideas.

Daniel Craig’s characters in various movies are always well dressed.

Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper seem to be well put together as well.

George Clooney has a timeless, elegant frumpiness to his look.

None.

I can’t think of any ‘celebrities’ whom I wish to mimic. They either frump around like everyone else in their cohort (exception being their denim vests/plaid shirts/ torn up jeans cost a month of my salary) or they’re all tarted up for TV awards shows. I don’t think anyone looks to a celebrity for fashion inspiration, though I’m told the girls buying prom dresses this year are chosing sexier, glittery knockoffs of red carpet looks, filtering down to the masses. And a lot of celebrities have shoe and clothing lines, in K-Mart and Sears, like Daisy Fuentes and the Kardashians. Jessica Simpson has made a billion dollars with a shoe line! I’m meandering and don’t know if I’ve answered the question…I’m told Diane Keaton is the shining example right now of what every middle aged woman should strive for, mostly well-tailored classic pants and skirts, pink lipstick, subtle highlights in hair, and white shirts. She doesn’t have a fashion line AFAIK but she is considered well put together.

I don’t follow anybody’s fashion style (and the less said about mine, the better) but if I were to do so, I almost always seem to like what Ellen Degeneres is wearing. I’m a tomboy and tend to dress in a fairly masculine style, and I think she always makes that style look good.
