Don’t really know why, but when I was a kid we always had Lasagna on Christmas eve. I looked forward to that.
I’ve done for years myself. We have a gift opening and Lasagna dinner every year.
I worked for a US company that would shut down from christmas eve until the 2nd of January. Thats a good tradition I’d support more broadly, if people had the 24th until the 1st off each year.
In the Orthodox churches a penitential Advent fast, accompanied by specific prayers, and almsgiving, is prescribed from November 14th or so to Christmas Eve. I think that would be salutary. No meat, eggs, dairy, wine, oil, or fish for that time although there are mitigations on Sundays.
Doesn’t that sound like more fun than what we do now?
At most medium to big companies in Canada that’s exactly what we do. Almost everyone gets the week off. Of course we don’t have a two-day Thanksgiving.
I hate that stupid commercial made up “elf on a shelf” crap, but even tho krampus is more authentic, Christmas should be a time of joy and happiness, not monsters.
Yes, more street markets, i like that.
Boxing day, give gifts to the Mail carrier, UPS driver, barber, car guy, etc. I already do it, but everyone should.
