Which contemporary films will best stand the test of time?

By “contemporary” I am of two minds: Film is relatively recent, all things considered, so the choices should be pretty recent, yet I’m inclined to include movies from my childhood, so Star Wars still seems contemporary to me.

I’d think that Resevoir Dogs would do pretty well. It doesn’t seem to be chock-full of slang, IIRC, and the settings & fashions are quite plain…there is no Steve Buschemi with a Flock-of-Seagulls hairdo talking with a valley-girl accent.

I might also suggest Lost in Translation because it’s hard to be put off by obtuse cultural references & fashions when a big part of the film involves people immersed in a foreign land. Additionally, I think it would be hard be put off by social anachronisms between the main characters since they’re relationship really wasn’t set against any real subtext such as romance, class war, familial obligations, etc.

Of course, the hands-down winner would be Dude, Where’s My Car?

What would you nominate? Why?
