Which dead performer(s) would you bring back to life?

Another vote for Frank Zappa
and John Bonham

I thought something like that might have been the case.

John Lennon
George Harrison
Jeff Buckley

All of them!
Jerry Garcia, Ron “Pigpen” McKernan, Keith Godchaux, Brent Mydland, and Vince Welnick.

Actually, I’d say my 5 would be
Bob Marley
John Lennon
Buddy Holly
Ian Curtis
Joe Strummer

In the poll I voted for Lennon, Tupac, Janis and Hendrix. I’d add Kirsty MacColl, Freddie Mercury, Jeff Buckley, Tim Buckley, Nick Drake, Eva Cassidy and Patsy Cline.

Kirsty, more than anyone else. The injustice of her death was so awful…I can’t write about it right now. Here’s what I have written previously.

Looks like by “performers” you meant musicians. My first thought was Jim Henson.

But for musicians, I’d pick Jim Croce and maybe Harry Chapin.

I meant to vote for Hendrix, but clicked too soon.

Another for Zevon.

And add Jackie Wilson.

Multiple Choice Poll. Voters: 80

Guessing Game (bonus): Will we hit 100 voters before DJ AM gets his (her?) first vote?

With all the work the OP is doing on this. . .is it safe to assume he has a way to complete this resurrection?

Not all that safe to assume. But aside from the “gee whiz” aspect of the thread, it might provide those folks in the hologram market with some ideas beyond that survey alluded to in Post #4. It has been my opinion that the sampling done there was from a different population than the one SDMB represents. I think our poll is bearing that assumption out convincingly.

Again, I vote: None.

Let new voices get their day.

MJ! MJ!

And maybe MJ and Elvis together. Hee hee

Why isn’t Freddie Mercury on the list???

Michael Jackson and Freddie Mercury are the greatest showmen on earth!

Eric Dolphy.

Would have been my #6.

I simply don’t understand the lack of love for Duane Allman here.

Add my vote for Duane, who died as a result of an accident rather than at his own hand, and who undoubtedly would have continued to do things with an electric guitar rivaled only by Jeff Beck!

I would have added Duane to my list, but I was already at 5 and Patsy Cline bumped him down a notch.

So well said. There are quite a number of young jazz musicians who met untimely deaths and who could be added to the list of people I would like to see revived. Even older people like Bill Evans, whose self-destruction in undeniable, was still in the business of making great music. I’ll see your Duane and raise you Berry Oakley!

Other names to consider:

Clifford Brown
Charlie Christian
Lenny Breau
Lee Morgan

With that Duane vote from silenus and me, I think Duane will make our cut for the write-in group.

As we are approaching 100 Voters, I will wait until then (or as soon afterward as I can get a sorted summary together) to post more updates. But for the ones who really care about any of the (1) or (2) names making another poll list, now would be a good time to say so.

I have not included names in the (1) list that I introduced, but I did count my vote for Duane Allman!
