There was a thread back in June (here) about how these services work, in case you’re curious, but I didn’t feel that my question was really related enough to stick it there.
I subscribe to several of these “mega-coupon” services, but overwhelmingly I find I actually buy from Groupon. I almost never use the stuff I see on the other services. I don’t have a good enough memory of what all the deals I’ve passed up were or which service had them, so I can’t say if it’s because Groupon offers more things that I’m likely to use, or offers things at more prices I can afford, or what, but while I’ve bought several Groupons, I don’t think I’ve bought a single Living Social deal or a Google Offer. I’m sure there are others out there, too, so feel free to list those.
So my question is: if you subscribe to “deal” services like these, do you find yourself using one more than the rest? Or is it pretty even? Any speculation on why? Any recommendations for some more that are good that aren’t listed?
Just one bump for the evening crowd with the additional question:
Are there any other good ones out there? I may drop Living Social since I don’t think I’ve ever gotten one of their deals. I like Groupon. There is a little local one up in New Hampshire that only covers one town so it’s useless to me… but are there any other ones worth signing up for? (even if you don’t vote)?
Also, what was your best deal? For us it was a whale watching trip. It came out to really affordable for the three of us and we saw 11 unique whales, each one several times, many very close to the boat. We also saw a “basking shark” which was pretty cool. My regret was that I spent too much time trying to take pictures and not enough time just enjoying what I was watching.
I buy way more from LivingSocial (whole foods, amazon, carpet cleaning, restaurants) than Groupon inspite of the fact I like Groupon’s interface far, far better.
I also dislike LivingSocial’s attempt at city-specific humor and inside jokes. It falls exceptionally flat.
I know this is an OpalCat thread so anything not available to her will be irrelevant, but as a Canadian not in Vancouver or the GTA, the other sites I have are SwarmJam and WagJag. Still use Groupon the most though.
Best Groupon was probably for sushi, since we’re still in some sort of ‘sushi = gourmet prices’ thing here.
I’m not sure I’ve ever bought a groupon (they don’t have my mid-sized city). I bought the national deals on LivingSocial, Eversave, and maybe one more where they were $10 of 20 for Amazon, Overstock.com. Would have bought the Google Offers $20 for $40 newegg but they didn’t send an email about the deal until it was already sold out. The only one that actually has deals in my city is SeizeTheDeal, so they are the only one I’ve ever bought a local deal from - my wife got a massage.
Not true, I specifically asked people if there were others and mentioned one from a nowhere town in NH. I would like it if people would share theirs, both local and far and wide. It would help others find them.
I like Groupon. Sometimes I can go months without buying anything from them but they have some very good deals for things I like.
Another thing I like is that just recently I had to use customer service because when I tried to redeem a groupon the service provider would not return my calls. I told Groupon and they refunded the value of the Groupon without any fuss. That definitely makes me a lot more likely to use them in the future.
I’m in the Netherlands and we have Groupon too. I have bought from them about threee times now, and I am satisfied with the offers. The only thing I dislike is that Groupon sold my email adress and now I get a whole bunch of these offers (six a day or so) and now I see them more as spam.
A few years ago I was subscribed to Living Social, but the great majority of their deals were geared toward women (beauty salons, spas, manicures, facials, etc.) I never bought a single thing from them and dropped my subscription after a month or two.
LivingSocial did this for us, too. We bought a voucher for a room painting and the company never returned calls or emails. Getting our money back was painless. Groupon refunded us when a mobile car detailing company no-showed on us, too.
For people with young children, the aggregate daily deal sites Zulily and Totsy are nice. Don’t order anything you need right away–they don’t warehouse, so shipping takes about five weeks. But I’ve gotten some great deals from both sites.
