The obvious choice is Sarah-Jane, but there are SO many options. Tegan is definately a contender. Time was when I’d say Nyssa, but she hasn’t aged that well.
But I think my number one choice would probably be Victoria.

Tegan was really hot, in an early 1980’s way.
Peri!
Oooh I forgot about Peri. She’s gonna seriously skew the results.
I’m concerned for the folks here who prefer men - there’s not a lot to offer them. I’ll open up actual incarnations of the Doctor for those folks.
Ooh yeah Peri. But also Leela, Romana and Jo. Sarah Jane was a cow, wouldn’t touch her with a ten foot pole. But Leela, she’s at the top of the list.
Isn’t the second Romana married to Richard Dawkins? And yeah, Peri.
Talk about an adolescent geek-boy fantasy that I can’t shake, lo these many years later!
Peri alone may make the Colin Baker episodes my favorite–up until she left the Tardis to marry BRIAN BLESSED! Horrors! Didn’t she and the Doctor know that they were supposed to land in MY backyard in Garland, Texas, and whisk me away in the Tardis and that I’D marry Peri soon thereafter?
Romana number II. No question… and Nyssa… and Jo… especially Jo…
Hmm…
Excuse me, I have to go… um… powder my nose.
Another vote here for Sarah-Jane. With Liz Shaw running her a very close second.
Leela.
End of discussion
I would have said Leela until I found a video clip of Louise Jameson topless. That’s a terrible thing to say, but it’s true.
I think it’s interesting that people often say Romana II (who I believe IS married to Richard Dawkins) but no one ever says Romana I. I didn’t think there was anything wrong with her.
And I’m sure you Jo fans are aware she posed nude with a Dalek.
Top three would be Romana II, Leela, and Romana I.
!!!
faints dead away
Zoe, Zoe, Zoe…
Yeah, I know she looked about fourteen (babyfaced), but I know she was 20 - 21 when she did her two seasons, so I don’t feel so bad.
Sir Rhosis
And, unfortunately, the Dalek looked much better. Much, much better. Especially the shots of it giving that come hither look with its eye-stalk-thingy. While Katy whatshername looked almost go thither. Truly, some things are better left to the imagination.
That said, I’d say Nyssa first, then Peri, and maybe Ace if the other two were busy. I’d have to figure out a way to keep Peri from actually speaking, though.
Actual companions? Probably the Scotsman of the first doctor’s reign.
There was one character, though, that I thought would have made an excellent companion, and right up until the last minute I thought he was going to join the Doctor, but didn’t. It was Sylvester McCoy’s first episode (“Time and the Rani?”), and the aliens there had big orange and yellow mohawks and scales on their faces. The young guy who was the “main local character” (for lack of a better term) of the episode was HOT. I’d loved to have seen him out of that makeup.
Esprix
Esprix,
Not to be picky, but are you referring to the young lad in a kilt named Jamie who was a companion of the Second Doctor?
He did have that cute 60s shag cut going, didn’t he?
Sir Rhosis
I always liked Turlough, slime-ball that he was.
The most underutilized companion, and my favorite, is definitely Adric.
As for doing (I’ll shoot the guy who just shouted K-9), probably Leela. She actually advised the doctor on shooting a bow, that was cool. And also the smartest one of all, and The Doctor’s daughter Susan. I wondered what happened to her? Did she wind up ruling the future Earth or something like that?
Male- Harry Sullivan
Female- Leela
