Which (if any) "Blue" states are trending purple?

I don’t think there are any, but Louisiana might be the closest. The loss of a large number of Democratic voters from New Orleans after Katrina could make Louisiana more of a typical solid south Republican state.

Last poll I saw had Obama up by 15 points over McCain in Minnesota. It’s way early, but it will take some doing for McCain to close that gap. He would almost have to pick Pawlenty to get into it and that may not be enough.

Note: Though our Governor is hailed as proof that MN is trending red, it should be remembered his best performance at the polls was a 46% take. He’s been blessed by the Independence Party running liberal candidates in both of his contests.

Louisiana went strongly for Bush in both 2000 and 2004, it is hard to classify it as a blue state turning purple.

On a slight hijack, isn’t there an organized group of “purplies”? I saw a bumper sticker the other day with a half-donkey/half elephant, but I could not read the writing on it.

All this talk of where states are trending based on the last three or four presidential campaigns reminds me of the story about Mao Zedong being asked (in the 1950s) what the lessons were of the French Revolution. His response: “It’s far too early to tell.” Even if you can get everyone to agree on what makes a state red, blue, purple or chartreuse, it’s tough to say a state is “trending” one way based on such a limited set of data points. And such short-term trending is subject to wild variance in any given election year – you could say that NH is trending blue, but McCain is a bit of a favorite son and could buck the trend.

AARP. They run a commercial alot on the news networks using that logo. It is of a bunch of kids saying, basically, “Don’t just say you’ll fix healthcare/social security/etc, but actually do it this time.”
