Which ingredient would you surprise the Iron Chefs with?

I wouldn’t give them an ingredient, I’d limit their ingredients to only be things that I am not allergic to. That would mean no dairy products, no eggs, no peanuts, no almonds, no chicken, and no shellfish. But if they did this then I’d have to be a judge. It just annoys me that I’m never able to eat any of their creations (not as though I would ever attempt to make them-they seem complicated).

PB

Cheese Whiz

Library Paste

Lutefisk

That’s easy to prepare. Slice it, fry it, and eat it. I love scapple.

I’d see what they could do with chittlins.

NO ONE can make it appetizing.

Potential ingredients:

Live kittens
Panda
Dolphin
American Eagle
Toy poodles
Live Chihuahuas
Members of PETA
Vegans

Mealworms
Brains
Dog
Durian
Corpse-Flower
Kaolin

Seriously sugesting here: chives. Several kinds of wild onions. Maybe something quitessentially American like paw-paws and persimmons.

Peanut M&Ms
Finger O’ Wendy’s Employee
Loch Ness Monster Filet
Fancy Feast (any Grilled variety)
Skoal (Berry or Wintergreen, Long Cut)
Wholphin (much tastier than dolphin)
Slurpees
Praying Mantis

Pizzle - a Chinese supermarket near here sells it. I have no idea how you prepare it.

Hot dogs.

And they must be the generic 3 packs for a buck kind, no Oscar Meyer or Thorn Apple Valley.

Bratwurst. Seriously. Besides simmering and grilling it and tossing it on a chewy bun with onion, kraut, and mustard… what do you do with it?

Head cheese, perhaps?

Doughnuts.

Toe jam.

I like the hotdog choice. I haven’t seen the american version but in the japanese (?) version of the show they always come up with something elegant no matter what the ingredient. I’d like to see what they do with a normal Schneider’s hotdog.

And just because I love them, peaches. I know it’s not clever or original, I just want to see what some of the best chefs in the world do with peaches.

To hell with that—I’m talking fresh, steaming braaains here!

Bitter melon - I’d like to see them make dessert out of this.

Chitlins

Poke salad

Pork blood

Habanero chiles

Road kill.

Marshmallow Peeps

Candy Corn

Pine needles

Altoids

The bubble gum from packs of baseball cards.

That packing material made from corn (no, not the candy corn)

Rock salt

boxed mashed potato buds.

That should be Soirento Guriin.

My suggestions:

Natto.
Smelt.
Eelpout.
Lembas. (yah, I know…)
Lard.
Velveeta.
Canadian bacon.

Just…something that they’ve never heard of before, or that doesn’t fit into their chosen cuisine. One of my favorite moments from the Japanese show was the overtime battle with Chen Kenichi, and the ingredient was foie gras. Chen had this, “what the hell am I supposed to do with this stuff?” look on his face.

Popcorn was my favorite so far–brilliant idea!

My suggestion: marzipan.
