Which is it? Dogs or cats?

It’s not just cats that will try to comfort you. My dog, who happens to be more of a very large demon mutt thing (he’s actually a german shepherd/chow chow mix), can’t stand to see me upset. If I’m worried, or angry or sad he’ll do his best to either just lay his head on my lap or give me all his toys to try to get me to play. This may not sound like much but my dog usually won’t give up his toys to play fetch with anyone but my dad most of the time. He’s a very cuddly animal most of the time too. Another point that hasn’t been made is that dogs might be better for more active people. You can go jogging with your dog, or take it to the park with you, or go to the lake with it, however cats aren’t the best pets to take with you out of the house.

Kitty
(Kinda ironic about the name isn’t it?)

Dogs. For all of the reasons stated above. I love talking to my dog, because he always seems to know how I feel, and will hang out and comfort me. He is also very protective, and likes to stand guard when I’m in the shower, or asleep.

Cats… well, I’m allergic to them, so I’ve never had much interaction with them to say that I like 'em much.

Dogs, especially cocker spaniels. I hate cats. And not just because they give me an allergic nose reaction.

I have both, three dogs and two cats but… :::please don’t say a word to my dogs ::: I prefer the cats. I have always been a cat person, they have more soul.

Bo

I have two dachshunds, but I would love to be like Queen Elizabeth II of England/GB and her corgies - me with a pack of these little dachshunds tumbling around my feet.

Dont’ get me wrong, I like cats as well, but my living with preference is dog [not just one] and dachshund because of their independence.

I guess I am a dog version of that little old lady with 50 cats cited above.

Kiffa, you’re a crazy little old dog lady?

Wow! I hope that someday I can be just like you…

Cats, for two reasons: 1) dogs make me sneeze and wheeze. 2) dog shit.

My cat is an indoor/outdoor boy, and he goes to the bathroom outside. It REALLY pisses him off to have to use the cat box. He would rather shred a screen to get outside (which he did the last time we took him to my in-laws) than use the cat box. I just don’t want to live with an animal whose shit I will have to deal with every single day of it’s life.

However, I love playing with other people’s dogs. And then taking benadryl.

Dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs dogs everytime and forever, dogs. Always.

It’s interesting to me that with the exception of the person who made the completely bizarre startement that cats have more soul (What???) most people who complain about dogs and prefer cats seem to do so for very superficial reasons: dog breath, licking, jumping, dogshit, etc. I think that says alot about the people who choose cats over dogs.

A few things to keep in mind:

Dogs are 80% the product of their upbringing. Good training can turn an irritating beast into an absolute angel. And the very fact that they respond to training says alot. My dog, through no action of mine, since I rescued her already grown, is perfection. She has personality enough for 10 dogs and 10 people, she is sweet and loving and smart beyond belief, and does not do a SINGLE obnoxious thing. Nothing. No trash nabbing, no licking or jumping, no excessive barking, she sticks to me like glue and never goes where she isn’t invited, on and on. Anyone who wouldn’t find her perfectly delightful company is insane. I would do anything for this dog, I love her to distraction.

I also have two cats. One I love, the other I despise. the one I love is fat and beautiful and paranoid and noisy and funny and not a little nuts and a classic skaredykat. He has a huge vocabulary of silly noises, all of which translate as “feed me”. He never goes where he shouldn’t and he’s very well behaved.

Then I have another cat that just showed up one day and woulnd’t go away. She’s very friendly and loving and purrs alot, and she’s the most irritating animal I’ve ever encountered. She always wants to be where she’s not wanted, she barfs hairballs ONLY on delicate electronic equipment, she steals food and licks the butter, she has destroyed countless drapes, miniblinds a wetbar, multiple pieces of furniture and an entire carpet. She is, and LOOKS, utterly evil. It doesn’t not matter how brutally I toss her across the room, she will come right back. She’s either stupid or beyond obstinate.

Dogs, especially good dogs, are love distilled and defined into its most perfect form. Cats are, at best, amusing, and at worst, incredibly destructive.

Cats, but I’m one of few I know that can get along with all domestic felines.

You want mine?

I’m a sucker for cats. I like dogs too, but I love cats. I find that most cats are friendly, they just don’t greet you like a used-car salesman who hasn’t sold anything this month, and it’s the 27th day. Cats need to be properly socialized when they’re kittens, or they will grow up to be aloof. Basically, dogs adore humans, while cats like humans.
