Which is less?

Which is less?

nothing which has been present for an infinitely long time
or
something which has been present for an infinitely short time

I think it would depend on how you look at it (or how certain terms are defined).

My first guess would be something that has been present for an infinitly short time. I believe the other statement would be undefined.
OTHO nothing is always less then something.

Of course nothing isn’t really…now I’m thinking to much. I think the first question is do you want a philisophical answer (in which case GD might be the place to ask) or a mathematical answer?

Less what??? Less substance? Less age? Less similar to nothing?

I’m going to go with less substance. In this case, nothing which has been present for an infinitely long time would be “less”. The time that something has been around has no bearing on its “amount”.

There is a beer bottle sitting on the desk in front of me. It has been there for a few minutes. Would it be any “less”/“more” if it had been there for a billion years? Of course not! It’s the same beer bottle!

So time is irrelevant, and something is “more” than nothing, so nothing, however long it’s been around, would be “less”.

For a time nothing has been present.

Something has been present for a time.

In the first, the only thing present is time.
In the second, the only thing present is something.

So, less what? Something or time?
