Which is more energy efficient re: laundry

I have a HE front loader washer and a relatively energy efficient dryer. Which is better – to run an extra spin cycle option on the washer (squeeze more water out) but use energy there, or to run the dryer longer?

Does the extra spin cycle make any difference, if you try it? I imagine there is a limit to the amount of water that can be spun out, and spinning for longer won’t change that. So the first thing I would do would be compare drying times for similar clothes spun once and spun twice.

It takes a lot of energy to evaporate water. I’d bet on the spin cycle being more efficient, assuming that it can get any more water out. My washer has already pulled out everything it can before it finishes its normal spin cycle, so it would not help me.
