Which is the loveliest rabbit?

IKR? Even though I specifically asked them not to in the OP. :frowning: Mods?

I’ve never met one in person, but I love their look. Did you find them harder to keep than regular rabbits?

Like this? I think that’s called pointed, like Siamese cats, and can be found in lots of breeds. The one pictured with short ears is a Netherland dwarf. The white ones with black rings around their eyes (no dark ears though) are called Hotots, the H is silent. Too much eyeliner!

I also remembered the castor rex, bred to resemble beaver fur. (Castor is the genus beavers belong to). Lovely mahogany red.

SO PRETTY.

I think rabbits are adorable. I didn’t know they could be so pretty!

Netherland Dwarfs! That’s it. I didn’t know they came in various colors. Here’s a brown one.

Am I the only one looking at these pictures and thinking “Bigwig”, “Blackberry”, “Fiver”, and so on?

Nor with Bunny Bleu.

There are obviously a lot of attempts at humor in this thread, which is standard protocol around these parts. But it’s a bit of a dick move to post that (particularly with the link) in a thread of this nature. No warning issued, but please give a little more thought and courtesy next time.

The rabbit of Ostara, or Eostre aka The Easter Bunny

Locally, I find Lepus californicus deserticola nice.

I’m weird, I know.

not anymore, you’re not, now that you’ve mentioned them.

Sez who?

My sister had had two ridiculously fluffy lionhead bunnies. So fluffy im gonna die!

For big ears, a little further afield (AZ and MX) we find the antelope jackrabbit. Wild lapines are slightly out of my purview, though!

Our mileage varies? I come from a farm family where most things you would consider pets, or at least cute, we considered possible/probable entrees. The difference between say a pet rabbit and a food rabbit on a farm is we usually didn’t name the ones being raised for meat. Not 100% accurate but it gives you the sense of where some of us are coming from. Especially with rabbits since the main reasons for the development of a lot of the breeds are meat and/or hides. People who tie fishing flies get the same way over chickens.

There is a line though as I see a Mod has pointed out.

How do I clean milk and Rice Krispies off my keyboard?

And then my head exploded

Wild rabbit anecdote:

Decades ago, in central Virginia, I came out of a college computer lab waaay too long after dark, on a cold late fall night.

A full moon cast its light across the frosted grass. As I stretched, movement caught my eye.

It was hard to distinguish exactly what was moving against the gleaming lawn, especially with the glare of fluorescent tubes still lingering in my retinas. I held still and stared, letting my eyes adjust, taking in the whole lawn.

And then suddenly I was able to resolve what I was seeing. A pair of adult rabbits were playing with their litter of bunnies! Silvery bunnies hopping over each other and darting about on a field of silvery grass! They seemed completely unconcerned about my presence.

I held still and watched until the chill compelled me to seek warmth. This was a moment I will always remember.

Phew! I thought maybe you had come face to face with the dreaded were rabbit.

What beautiful sight. We used to have wild bunnies around here but god forbid there be one square foot of land left undeveloped :frowning:

Baby snowshoe hares are pretty lovely.

Um, you know those are toys, right?

I took this photo of a young snowshoe hare a few summers ago at Isle Royale NP.

+2, at least
