My boytoy actually teetered on the edge of alcoholism while growing up in Pakistan – it was apparently pretty easy to get ahold of the stuff, and he and his friends would hang out and smoke cannabis while getting drunk, too.
He grew out of that before coming to the States, but saw lots of his friends go hog-wild when they got to America – liquor, drugs, women, etc. are so easy to get that they don’t know when enough is enough. He says he lost his taste for that nonsense back in Pakistan.

A rather entrepreneurial friend of mine who worked in Dubai for a number of years started an underground company there called DTM (“Don’t Tell Muhammad”).
